Photo interpretation contest: Votto as Icarus

NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 15: Joey Votto #19 of the Cincinnati Reds looks on duirng the game against the New York Mets at CitiField on June 15, 2012 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City. (Photo by Mike Stobe/Getty Images)

Here's a cool photo of baseball's best batter from Getty Images. Post your critical interpretation of this photo and win an all-expenses paid trip to tonight's Game Thread.

Here are a few starters:

Technical/photographic:

You shouldn't point you lens directly toward the sun or other bright light sources, though when shooting Joey Votto this may be unavoidable. See also: Reverse Vampire Principle.

Hegelian:

In many photos of sport, we speak about the dialectic between light and dark, foreground focus and background ambience. The presence of Votto creates a sublation of the idea of hitting and not hitting - of spring and fall. An idealistic, vernal impression is rendered in the yellow light - perfectly in middle of spectrum - to suggest a new thesis of baseball excellence has been achieved.

Occult/Insane:

VOTTO is ASCENDING to heavan [sic] in this PIC!!!!!!
