Technical/photographic:

You shouldn't point you lens directly toward the sun or other bright light sources, though when shooting Joey Votto this may be unavoidable. See also: Reverse Vampire Principle.

Hegelian:

In many photos of sport, we speak about the dialectic between light and dark, foreground focus and background ambience. The presence of Votto creates a sublation of the idea of hitting and not hitting - of spring and fall. An idealistic, vernal impression is rendered in the yellow light - perfectly in middle of spectrum - to suggest a new thesis of baseball excellence has been achieved.

Occult/Insane:
