Rewind Game 2: Reds vs. Cardinals (July 15, 2011)
This is the second of four Classic Rewinds on FSO. Apologies for the late post, I didn't have much time to ruminate on this one. Apparently I didn't have much time for the original game either, which was the first back from the break:
Welcome back, everyone. The Reds probably could have used some of those off days in May and June. Oh well. I had a very precise memory wipe performed yesterday, so I don't remember the first half anyway. Only two games below .500? It's a brand new season and I think it's very sporting of the team to spot the Cardinals 4 games.
It's a good one or else we wouldn't be here. Brace yourself for some wicked WPA swings.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Anybody read this book?
I've read The Book. Interesting, but not a page-turner.
It’s nice to read maybe just a chapter at a time, and switch to something else.
I recommend Waiter Rants and Freakonomics

I've read Freakonomics, it's a good one
I’m looking for baseball related reading material. I haven’t read many baseball books, beyond Moneyball and The Baseball Codes, which is a very good book, by the way.
I enjoyed
The Bullpen Gospels: Major League Dreams of a Minor League Veteran by Dirk Hayhurst.
It’s funny, but it’s also as close most of us will ever be to life as a minor leaguer.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Bullpen Gospels are next on my list.
I follow Hayhurst on twitter, and I think he’s really interesting – he also wrote one of my favorite pieces on Tim Tebow that I’ve seen yet.

Thanks for the ideas

Heh, I'm reading Name of the Wind right now.
It’s certainly holding my interest – but I’m about 50% through though, and I feel like I’m still waiting for something.
I read BBTN
A good read at the time. It’s probably a little dated now.
This is the baseball book I’d go to hell with.
The Glory of their Times seemed interesting when I was browsing it at the Barnes and Noble over the holidays.
Glory of their Times is one of my favorites.
Ball Four by Jim Bouton and Posnanski’s Soul of Baseball are both up there as well.

Walt says there won’t be any more roster additions. Probably. They have not been in contact with Oswalt’s people, and did not send a scout to watch Kazmir.
He also said Chapman is in AZ. He’s healthy and throwing well. They still think he’ll be a starter.

Heh
First three Cards hitters are no longer with the team

STACHE SMASH!!!
I kinda hate this game, it was such a tease.
it tricked me into believing there was still some life in the Reds.

If the A's make the World Series this year

There's that microcosm statement again.
"guys... Dave Grohl out there rocking out #Iknowhisnamebecausefoofighterenthusiastscussedmeout"--Pat McAfee
That was a great game
I loved seeing the look on all those inbred hilljack Cardinal fans as BP rounded the bases going crazy. All game long they were going on with their damn “let’s go Cardinals” chant. They got the what-for from the people in my section after that!
Geez, I hope those a-holes don’t pack GABP again this year. There were too many fans of the other team showing up at games last summer, making sure everyone noticed them. Hopefully more Reds fans show up this year.
Respect my authoritah!
Whose fanbase is more inbred
the Reds or the Cardinals?

No question..St. Louis.
I have been to a Cardinals-Reds game in St. Louis…I saw the most stupor- ific people I believe I’ve seen outside of the deep South. We sat with these guys:

Scott Roland should retire tomorrow.
Glad to see Hillbilly Jim
is still alive and kicking.
