Thus begins the big-time season awards week, which MLB is milking like a fattened heifer (?). Every night at 6pm, there's an hour long live announcement special on MLB Network. Which probably means we'll find out at 6:57.
After this, it's Manager of the Year announcements tomorrow, Cy Young on Wednesday and the MVP Award Thursday, November 15.
Along with tomorrow's Manager of the Year announcement, this is one of the Reds' last two chances at MLB-sanctioned awards for 2012. I'm not deluding myself into thinking Todd Frazier is going to win this thing, though he was in it until roughly late August.
The Frazz had a white-hot .293/.352/.549 line on August 31. He took a tumble in September, a month in which Bryce Harper OPS'd over 1.000. And, as long as we're being fair, we shouldn't forget Wade Miley. He was arguably one of the 5-10 best pitchers in the NL, let alone rookies.
Even if Todd doesn't win the ROY, he's still the favorite to win an award I made up in mind: 2012 MLB Most Instant Legend. There was the Heimlich, the hands-free homer and haymaker to name a few.
He also had a really good season. And even though most of us forgot he was the Reds' best prospect not too long a go, he's now an important fixture in the future of this team.
The nominees
NL:
Todd Frazier, Reds
Bryce Harper, Nationals
Wade Miley, Diamondbacks
AL:
Yoenis Cespedes, A's
Yu Darvish, Rangers
Mike Trout, Angels
Incredibly pointless (at least in the AL) predictions
NL: Harper
AL: Trout
