Ramon Hernandez placed on waivers
Didn't see this up yet. I'm not sure on the rules of waivers, so I'll let someone smarter than me explain it.

Without looking
When a player is placed on waivers, there is a 72 hour window for any other club to place a claim on him. If multiple teams claim him, the one with the worse record gets priority. When the player is claimed, the team that placed him waivers can either pull the player back off waivers, or surrender him to the team that has claimed him. The new team is then responsible for the player’s remaining contract. If nobody claims the player, the team that placed him on waivers is free to negotiate a trade with any other team. I also think that if the player is pulled off waivers, he cannot be put back on waivers.
they can trade him to the claiming team though
or if he passes through waivers they can trade him to anyone. that’s why the August deadline is called the “non-waiver” trade-deadline. this actually is how Dunn was traded, and the dbacks claimed him to keep him from another contending NL west team. But, like you said, the player can be given away to the claiming team and that team will have to pay the players salary, so you see a number of guys go through without being claimed. They then can be traded freely. Ramon being put on waivers is not all that surprising, a lot of players are placed on waivers around now. That way teams can see what someone will trade for them, or they can dump the salary on someone.
The priority goes by league, then record
E.g., the Phillies have priority over the Orioles if the Reds place Coco on waivers.
I thought it was the players current league then the other league in the pecking order
but wasn’t completely sure. Is it only this way post trade deadline? Isn’t it normally 30-1 on other waiver claims?
It means if another Major League Baseball Club does not claim Hernandez within 72 hours of being placed on waivers
Hernandez will be executed via a fire squad made up of the other 24 Reds at noon on the third Thursday following the day he was placed on waivers.
Pretty serious stuff.
It will get better.
How's about CoCo Cordero?
Why not put him on waivers, too? Imagine if the Giants got both Cordero and Clutch-Man-Monie… that should net us at least one decent prospect..
