2011 NBA Draft Open Thread
It's time once again for one of my favorite annual threads on Red Reporter! That's right, it's time for the NBA Draft! In the past these threads have produced lots of discussion, lots of good jokes & lots of trolling! Let's hope tonight is no different!
It seems to be a foregone conclusion that Kyrie Irving is going to go #1 to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but after that not much is certain. Will the Cavs take a big man at #4 or trade away that pick? The Internet has been going crazy with trade rumors & there is apparently a 3 team trade that's already been completed. The Spurs for some reason are trying to trade Tony Parker for a Lottery Pick and it should be entertaining to see how many teams make a huge mistake & pass on the best player in the draft, Enes Kanter.
Other notables in the draft include Derrick Williams, Brandon Knight, Kemba Walker, Jimmer Fredette, Marcus Morris, Tobias Harris, Tristan Thompson & a couple of foreign players I've never heard of that apparently can't get out of their oversees contract.
Perhaps less notable are DeAndre Liggins, #Jorts, and former Louisville commit Jeremy Tyler.
And, of course, it wouldn't be an NBA draft without several sightings of John Calipari!
And because Cleveland is likely to be the story of the draft, Rally Cavs Girl!

Jimmer Fredette will be a bust and should be avoided.
Discuss.
"People don't kill people. Burning oreo packages kill people."
And Kemba's probably gonna be drafted higher, right?
"People don't kill people. Burning oreo packages kill people."
Kemba will DEFINITELY be a NBA bust
what position will he play?
undersized 2 guard?

Not an Adam Morrison-esque bust, but I agree.
But isn’t this a weak draft? He’ll probably be a decent lottery pick (for this group)
i'm a spurs fan
i’d like for them to trade far enough into the lottery to get him, but that doesn’t seem to be their intention.
there was some talk of the hawks trading to number 2 to draft him & i wouldn’t hate that.
I guess i’d most like him to play in washington with John Wall
I clicked on this thread just to ask this
I have no idea about this draft because I don’t care about basketball, but the Washington Post Express said that Kanter was a possibility for the Wizards. And between him and John Wall, would that make you any more of a Wizards fan?
by Brendanukkah on Jun 23, 2011 7:00 PM EDT up reply actions
I think that may be enough to make ME a Wizards fan.
I don’t know a whole lot about Kanter, but from what I read (mostly ‘tHan tweeter links) he got hosed by the NCAA. So I like him and hope he doesn’t end up in Cleveland.
Why in God's name did Harrison Barnes stay in school? I don't get it.

yep.
i have no idea why barnes didn’t slap ole roy and declare for the draft the minute he was told that
I can't wait until the Jazz take him 10 picks higher than he should be taken

I hate the Jazz
I don’t even know why.
"People don't kill people. Burning oreo packages kill people."
They have the 3rd pick
And I think they’ve been trying to trade down, but haven’t had a good offer yet. I have to think that if they don’t get an offer they love they’re going to take him at 3. I can’t fucking wait for this to happen.

I hope the Cavs blow it!
Since Shaq has retired, I am now an NBA-fan free agent. I’m not sure who I am going to root for from this point on. It will not be the Cavs.
Welcome to my world.
I just kind of follow ex-Mizzou players.

I was a Bulls fan...
like every other child of the 90s. But when Shaq came along, I was a Magic fan. Then a Lakers fan. Then a Heat fan. Then a Suns fan. Then he spent a year in Cleveland and I hoped Shaq stayed healthy. Then a Celtics fan.
Now, I need a single team to pull for. The early favorites are the Pacers and Pistons (just because of proximity.)
I think Flat Top from Cleveland St. could be a solid sleeper pick.
"People don't kill people. Burning oreo packages kill people."
Faried from Morehead State will be an excellent value pick at the end of the first round for somebody

So, why is the NBA only 2 rounds?
I know it’s been like that for quite a while now, but why did they retract it?
With more international players
Shouldn’t there be more talent?
(Not that teams of 12 need a draft of more than two rounds)
by Brendanukkah on Jun 23, 2011 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't think they need more than 2
The second round picks don’t even get guaranteed deals anyway, so finding spots on teams for 2 players is too many for some teams.
