Farmers Only: It's been a while since J.C. Sulbaran was here for something good

  • Louisville won 2-1 against Syracuse with a well-pitched game.  Daryl Thompson got the start and went 5 innings and gave up 1 run while striking out 6, and David Johnson, Justin Lehr, and Nick Christiani combined for 4 shutout innings of relief, with Christiani notching his 2nd AAA save.  Yonder Alonso went 3-for-4 with a triple (!) and Juan Francisco drove in a run.  Up next: Edinson Volquez takes on Syracuse at 7:05, so go catch that one if you're in the Louisville area.
  • Carolina lost 3-2 to Jacksonville.  Kyle McCulloch gave up 1 run in 5 innings, and Cody Puckett and Felix Perez were both 2-for-4 with a RBI.  Up next: James Avery takes the mound as the Mudcats battle Jacksonville at 7:05.
  • Bakersfield won a rare 1-0 victory against Stockton.  Remember J.C. Sulbaran?  The one we had such high hopes for coming off of the WBC a few years ago?  He's finally showing up in Bako, as he went 6 shutout innings with 9 strikeouts and 3 walks.  It's worth mentioning that Mace Thurman and Doug Salinas combined to finish the shutout effort and marks the first time that Blaze pitching has shut out an opponent all year.  Didi Gregorius had two hits, and Stephen Hunt scored the only run of the game with his 5th homer of the year.  Up next: Lance Janke takes on Stockton at 10:05.
  • Dayton lost 6-5 to Beloit.  Jefry Sierra was 2-for-5 out of the leadoff spot with 2 runs batted in, and David Vidal hit his 6th homer of the year, a solo shot.  Billy Hamilton was 0-for-4, but extended his lead over everyone else in the world with his 42nd stolen base of the year.  Daniel Renken struck out 9 in his start, but gave up 6 runs (5 earned) over his 6 innings.  Daniel Wolford and Ezequiel Infante pitched admirably out of the bullpen, but the offense couldn't come all the way back.  Up next: Josh Smith takes on Beloit at 7.
