This game is going to be spooky. Someone should really call up the Ghost Hunters. Why, you ask? Because walks will haunt, and this game looks to be full of them. Jonathan Sanchez comes into this game with a BB/9 of 5.45, while our own Edinson Volquez sports a whopping 6.21 BB/9, so big that I'm pretty sure it got stuck in a bathtub during its presidency (William Howard Taft reference WHAT WHAT). Sanchez and Volquez have both been effectively wild for much of their careers, but neither have really been able to translate their above-average stuff into acedom due to below average control. It bodes well that the Reds have an elite offense and the Giants decidedly do not, so ideally while the Wagon is striking out the side after walking the bases loaded, Jonathan Sanchez is giving up RBI doubles after doing the same.
This game strikes me as one in which the Reds will either beat the Giants, or beat themselves. Hopefully some of the LOB problems from earlier in the year are behind them, and the boys can capitalize. Taking 3 of 4 on the road against the defending champs would be a huge boost. The Brewers are playing great baseball right now, and the Cards, despite getting swept by yet another division rival, play their next two series against the Nats and Royals, so getting off to a good start on what is probably the toughest stretch of games for the Reds is vital. Plus, we get to watch the Reds play on national TV while ESPN commentators talk about the Yankees and Red Sox! Yayyyy!
No lineup as of presstime, so someone post it when it comes out!
