Honestly, I don't really care

he isn’t a useful relief pitcher other than in long relief. It isn’t unheard of to bring pitchers up for a game and send them back out. It is in the best interest of the team, you tell Maloney he will probably be back, go and work in AAA and when he is needed again he will be called upon.

Yeah, this is a classic semi-annual meltdown

My concern with Arroyo is that his fastball is bordering on too weak to keep anyone honest. But his contract has a practical no-trade, given how the deferred money turns into salary.

Sez you

Arroyo is virtually un-tradeable.

I’m just saying that should be the top priority for a deadline deal. I think it’s the best single way the team stays competitive with the Cards.

You don't think it's a priority?

I’m not sure what’s confusing – tt’s the single biggest area of need on the team. Volquez could be left at AAA. Wood or Leake could be traded. There are plenty of possibilities that might improve the rotation, rendering Arroyo a #4/#5 rather than #2/#3. Granted, maybe none are achievable.

I don’t think they can muddle through, given where Volquez, Wood, Leake et al. appear to be.

apparently hte fan really crossed the line in terms of attacking Noah’s family and he snapped. Should he have used a homophobic slur? Probably not. But would it be better if he went for an ethnic slur? Or just a standard “fucking douschebag”?

He said that the cameras caught Noah. He gets fined, he apologizes, ok. But instead of discussing the game ESPN villifies Noah. Leave that to the internet, to the news. That isn’t sports.

He also said that fans should be held more accountable. A ticket doesn’t buy the right to attack individuals. But it’s tricky to do that in a way that isn’t turning a stadium into a police state.

Interesting stuff.

I would like to see the Reds fully utilize Stubbs

He does get on base and he has speed.
But he has a big swing and a lot of pop…right now there is no one protecting him in the battting order.
What kind of RBI and run production would he provide if Rolen or Bruce were behind in the order?
At least when Brandon Phillips was batting 2nd he had some protection.

Stubbs is the perfect leadoff hitter

plus we dont have a fleet footed short stop and we’re not going to be getting one for awhile. Stubbs has looked very good out of the leadoff spot. Bat Hi-Z second and I’d be very satisfied with our 1-2 spots in the lineup.

I wish we still had Hamilton

even if he is injury-prone. At least him and Votto in a line-up would rarely produce. Instead we get 1 good season from Volquez and his attitude is still a problem, just like when we traded for him. I just think that was a stupid trade. Good (at the time) Major league hitter for a minor league pitcher with minimal Major league experience and attitude. We could’ve kept Hamilton and have him and Votto produce or even have Hamilton for 1 more year and trade him for a number 1 starter. Now, onto the current situation, we are slumping, Rolen should take control and get us back on track. What I do not want to do is trade away our prospects for a rental player (reyes). I’d rather get someone who can contribute for years, and not deplete our farm system in the mean time.

LTP is for Stubbs only!

by OGC Reds on May 23, 2011 11:50 PM EDT reply actions

We have been over this

Hamilton staying on the wagon was not a sure bet. It still isn’t.

Plus the situation was further complicated by firing Jerry Narron, since he brother is Hamilton’s babysitter. Would you want to manage a team with the former manager’s brother still in the clubhouse? It could have created a bit of a complicated situation for Dusty if Hamilton didn’t like him.

The Rangers will probably get more production from Hamilton than the Reds will get from Volquez, but at the time it was trading a flawed young outfielder who is oft injured and a recovering crack addict for a flawed young pitcher with electric stuff, command problems, and attitude issues.

I don’t know if we could have gotten an established ace for Hamilton, I don’t think it is wise for the Reds to take on a pitcher in his late 20s or early 30s with a big contract, and young established pitchers with multiple years of team control just aren’t available that often. If I am the Reds unless I am given multiple cost controlled stars and am absolutely blown away I am not going to trade Johnny Cueto because young established pitchers are hard to come by and veteran aces are huge risks for small market payrolls.
