Mother Mads B.1-09-1911 D.3-07-2011
Farewell to a great Red's fan...my Mom passed away Monday evening peacefully in her sleep. A caretaker to many, an inspiration to many more and loved by all - Her philosophy was simple - I will all work out, it always does
Her favorite players included; Big Klu, Joe Morgan, Pete Rose, Tom Seaver and especially Tony Perez. In her later years she liked Tom Browning, Eric Davis, Adam Dunn, Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto,
She loved Sparky, was a fan of Dusty Baker and recently expressed a strong opinion that Marty should retire. She projected the 2011 Reds to be very successful even making the WS. She never quite understood Red Reporter...but then who really does, RIP sweet lady.

I needed to fix that!!!

It's astounding when I starting thinking about what took place in the world between 1911 and 2011

What an amazing life she must have lead and what great things she must have seen.

I’m very sorry for your loss Mads, and hopefully we can do Mother Mads proud and bring home a World Series trophy this year!

Thanks B.

My great Aunt (Mom’s mother’s sister) just missed living to 101 (her mom only made it to 97) Aunt Cora was born in 1868 (Civil War reconstruction era) and died in 1969 (the year we put a man on the moon) – Think of the changes she saw in HER life!!!

She picked a foundation at the Otterbein Community at St, Marys Oh (elder community)

For people who run out of money in the their old age at the home…I will find out the name of the fund and post it.

Very sorry to hear this.

And as Brooke mentioned- she must have seen some pretty amazing things over her life, sounds like she lived a great one.

Thanks Charlie...

But you know when your Mom lives to be 100, has a wonderful life, is not chronically ill and is sharp and coherent up to her final day of life…well i don’t have much to mourn for…yes i will her – she was blessed with a great sense of humor – but for the most part I am at peace with her passing… I am so appreciative for your and everyone’s kind words.

She would have loved RR (but was too old and couldn’t see worth a damn ergo no computer for Momma Mads) and RRers every where would have loved and enjoyed her as qwll.

If it's true that we're remembered by the people we leave behind

Mama Madville has left an enduring, indelible legacy. I never knew her, but she must have been an astounding woman to raise such a son. It sounds like her life was a great one. Buck O’Neil said something to the effect that we should only be sad when someone dies young. When they get to be old, their life should be celebrated.

R.I.P. Mother Mads.

In the spirit of Buck, then

Hooray for Momma Mads!

From what I hear, she was flat out the best Reds fan this side of, well, Mads himself.

Congratulations on getting to enjoy such a great Mom for so long, Mads. May she live on in the hearts and memories of your family. And may she enjoy her new best seat in the yard. :)

I completely agree on celebrating a life well-lived, 'nukkah

My grandfather passed away in December of 2009 of bladder cancer, and he was our thoroughly loved family patriarch. He had 10 kids, 27 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

A crazy coincidence put his death in perspective for me. Chris Henry and my grandfather shared a birthday, with my grandfather being exactly 50 years older. They both also died on the same day, within 15 minutes of each other, my grandpa at age 76, Henry at age 26. Chris Henry’s children will grow up without a father and he’ll never see any grandchildren, a true tragedy. Grandpa Jim got to see his children, grandchildren grow up and met several great-grandchildren. He’s missed by his family, but he lived a full life and we celebrated, we didn’t mourn.

Sounds like a correctly opinionated women

Although I love the Marty the hate monger’s general demeanor toward baseball, I can understand someone’s disdain for his lack of class at times. Memories do funny things. It seems that the options of others seem to become the options of our own over time. Maybe fondness takes over your own option like a 12 pack of beer. Maybe 2011 will be the breakout year for Welch in the radio booth, But that wouldn’t be nearly as interesting.

Best of wishes to the entire Mads Clan.

Today the family gathered and those believed it proper prayed

and those who felt it proper cried and some did both…but all of us celebrated the life of a great Woman and superior Red’s Fan.

the funniest part was at the interment when canopy blew over and bonked me on the head.

Did you guys have the service up in St. Marys? If so, how's the lake looking?

the lake is very slowly showing improvement.

At least the stench is pretty well gone. So nice corporate greed driven Americans to run this chemical shit off into the lake.
And people wonder why I am no longer a Republican (or for that matter a Democrat…or a whig or a tory or Lebertarian etc.) Greed and the path of least resistance rule out country still…its a fucking shame.

It will be at least a couple of years before the lake starts getting back to ‘normal’.

I'm sorry for your loss, Madville

I hope your family finds peace and comfort. Your mother sounds like a wonderful and wise lady.

The idea of celebration really resonates. And celebrating the shared memories and togetherness is definitely what fandom, at its best, can provide.
