Cueto injury?
Consequences of Cueto injury?
This is a development that could create some havoc with the Reds rotation. Johnny Cueto left his Saturday start vs. the Rockies after only one inning. Cueto was supposed to throw 50-60 pitches over 3-4 innings.
You may recall that Cueto exited his March 11 vs. TEX after two innings because of stiffness in his forearm and biceps. After a couple of days off and having his next start pushed back, he has been long tossing.
In his one inning, Cueto allowed two earned runs and three hits with no walks and one strikeout. He hit leadoff batter Seth Smith before giving up three-straight singles and a one-out sacrifice fly.
Cueto exited the ballpark to see a doctor and said he would speak later.

I love how it IS actually a robin - but an english robin:
English Robin – Eastern Bluebird

Weirdly, the bluebird and the american robin are more closely related to each other than either is to the english robin.

They’re like kansas-lite.

I almost wish
he’d just get the surgery and be done with it.
I’m afraid he’s going to try to work through it, sucking all the way, until they finally decide he needs surgery and/or a DL stint late in the season.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
well, let's be fair
Having surgery isn’t the same thing as getting a manicure.
It ain’t like we can just go in there and be done with it.
All the same, it has to be badly injured enough to call for it. Maybe taking 5 or 6 weeks off is enough. I think anyone would prefer that to surgery.

well if the legiment isn't damaged there isn't anything to cut on.
Lets see what happens first. Harang missed 3 weeks of 2004 with sore forearm. Cueto missed a couple of weeks in 2008 with sore elbow. Plus sore arms are quite common in spring training and end up meaning nothing.
I am very concerned this could be serious, and if he needs surgery I hope he gets it ASAP, I would hate to see this be like Volquez, who went down on the first of June but didn’t have surgery until July, so he lost most of 2009 and 2010, or Carpenter who only pitched in opening day of 2007 and only threw 15 innings in 2008. But giving Cueto 2-3 weeks to see what happens is very reasonable, and at most will cost him April of 2012, if surgery is needed and he recovers normally.

I really hope this is as minimal as they're portraying it
If Cueto’s seriously hurt, this is probably the most devastating pitching injury the Reds could suffer this year. Especially with the money they just committed.
unless somebody has a major injury
the reds can handle this.

in all seriousness
two major injuries really stretches the depth to its limits.

to an extent, yeah.
It also means that Yonder, Frazier, or Cozart could be used as trade bait for a starter instead of that mythical LF we’ve been searching for (since hopefully Heisey and Sappelt have shown that need to not be as strong.)

We can find a starter out there?
Any idea who might have one we could obtain if the emergency wagon backed up to the Reds clubhouse?
I can think of at least oneother team in the NLC who would trade their first-born for a starting pitcher.
Such a man would not come cheap, even if it’s Lohse-like in quality.

We could probably get Lohse for Maloney

I'm having a difficult time tracking the injury.
It was his forearm, then his biceps… now the mri shows inflamation in the shoulder? i guess logically something wonky with one muscle might affect those connected to it. But after following pitcher injuries my entire life, I don’t usually see this kind of movement. If it really is as reported, i guess the discomfort moving around is a good thing.
