RR Community Prospect Rankings: I think I'll sing it again - Drew Cisco is your #23 prospect
Drew Cisco edged out his competition for the 23rd spot on our list. He's still a ways away, but could see some time in Dayton with a strong spring and if the Dragons decide that they're not stacked enough yet. On the other hand, since he's still young and inexperienced, the team could decide to take him a little bit slower, especially considering he's a pitcher. No word yet if they're going to make him spell his name "D-R-U" and dye his hair white.
Since NYC had a little 'credtastrophe yesterday, I'm adding the next two to vote on. One is a projectable talent with huge potential but huge question marks and the other is exactly the same thing with less pro experience. Anybody we missed? Let us know.

He did get 2nd rd money
I was shocked when Baseball America had Cisco as our 12th ranked prospect, but he did get 2nd rd money and has a pretty solid 3 pitch repitoire for a high schooler. I his fastball can end up in the 91-92 range as he matures the next couple years he could be a Mike Leake type.

I think he can be a Mike Leake type anyway.
Leake’s average FB velocity was 88.7 mph this year. Cisco doesn’t figure to gain any velocity, but he’s already that fast.

It'll be interesting to see if he can locate like Leake
Bart: "Dad, what's a Muppet?"
Homer: "Well, it's not quite a mop, not quite a puppet, but man... (laughs, then pauses) So, to answer you question, I don't know."
I'm getting tired of people calling every pitcher who doesn't have an overwhelming fastball but can locate a "Mike Leake type."

No kidding!
The only guys who are Mike Leake types have a 4-seamer that moves like it’s on a string. And you can count those guys on two hands. Most of them make a lot of money.

The comps go beyond that
Cisco has the “pitchability” that Leake has too, in the sense that he is able to set hitters up, fool them, etc. Also, he doesn’t have the full arsenal of pitches that Leake has, but he has 3 potentially above average pitches.
I agree that comparing every little pitcher with a slow FB has gone too far, but this one actually fits.

you've cursed him
Now everyone’’s going to think he’ll grow up to be Adam Rosales.

His last name means "(they'll) last" in Spanish
does that help?

Can someone remind me again why Neftali Soto has fallen off the map?
by Brian B on Feb 3, 2011 1:42 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Because he's becoming a first baseman
And he hasn’t exactly been tearing it up.

man I really was hoping he'd stick at catcher
Although this was before Meso’s breakout and drafting of Grandal, but still. Right now his upside is what, Russell Branyan with a bit better OBP?
Joey Votto on Colin Cowherd: "I don’t know who he is"
I dont see the comparison at all?
especially if you think he will have better OBP?
"strikeouts are a lot sexier than groundouts"
I see him as more of a Mike Leake type.

Is he really 19 years old?
If so, then I’d say he’s doing just fine.
by Brian B on Feb 3, 2011 11:01 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
No, he turns 21 this month

I'm hoping Duran Duran will stop growing upward
and start filling out.
He’s not gonna be Dave Winfield, but maybe he can be a Richie Sexson type but more athletic.

And BAM!
Just like that, Neftali Soto is a first-ballot prospect. It’s a shame we run the candidates out here like this. Soto would likely have been voted much higher had he been a choice, and there are others not yet available who would have ranked higher as well.
More choices please, regardless of where you personally rank them.
