SIS --- 2011 Mod of the Year, and Other Topics
A while back I promised a few of the local RR contigency that I would find time to throw together a Serious Issue, Seriously that focused on awarding "The JD", for Red Reporter Moderator of the Year (2011). I refuse to stump for any candidates this is definitely an above the table contest. I have full confidence that "boobs" would win, if included on the ballot, so that choice (for this one poll only) has been discarded. Who's your favorite Mod, and why?
Thread hijack topic: Within moderation, if you could retire to one US city/rural area where would you select? Why?
Also, can we get a popular vote on the +1 and THIS usage? I feel both suck and are lazy, awful ways to state a thought or opinion.
And, obc's top 5 list of Reds prospects, after the Marshall and Latos trade. (I would have had Grandal 3rd, Alonso 4th and Torreyes 9th.
3. Daniel Corcino
4. Robeert Stephenson
5. Neftali Soto

I vote Zac Brown Band for album of the year.
And, after seeing Rise of the Planet of the Apes last evening, RofPofA gets my vote for most enjoyable movie of 2011.
I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is the best show on television. Psych gets the vote for best show on TV that comes with basic cable, just over The League. Best show on network television is too close to call, none really stand ahead of the pack for me.

zac brown band was the best album
curb has been the best show on tv for pretty much it’s entire run.
psych and the league are awesome. i give the nod to psych for being around so long & never dropping in quality.
i haven’t seen the apes movie, but everyone says it’s great.
best show on network television is Community.
the contest has been tainted by those who check profiles for voting history!
Ken was high on my list also, but i feared he would “open the presents before christmas”. HA!

Northern California (say, Sonoma) for retirement, for the great outdoors and proximity to a pretty awesome city. Two big league teams to boot.

Retirement Requirements
1. Must be near, or on, a beach
2. Must have at least minor league baseball nearby
3. No snow, dammit
4. A good local culinary scene is a major plus
5. I prefer a minor/major metro area, no boonies for me
At this point in time i’m leaning towards Charleston, SC. I suppose an argument can be made for SW Florida also, i much prefer the Gulf to the Atlantic. I have an odd gut feeling on Gulfport, MS…for no other reason that we flew directly over it on the way to our wedding locale. It looked kinda cool from 30000 feet.

My parents have retired to Dauphin Island, Alabama, which is like Gulfport's laid-back neighbor down the shore.
If you like fresh seafood it has all five of your requirements. It’s a great place aside form the hurricanes and well, aside from the fact that it’s Alabama. But you’re interested in Mississippi which is a poor man’s Alabama so maybe it’d work for you.

Charleston, SC, is my pick, too.
Folly Beach. Great food. Weather. Minor league baseball. College baseball (C of C and The Citadel).
The Yellowstone/Grand Titans areas of Wyoming are appealing, too.

There's no way I could pick just one place in the US
My dream is live in an RV in retirement, so I can travel all over. I would definitely spend March in either Arizona or Florida, but I wouldn’t want to live either place year-round.
Expanding a little beyond the US…I really love Nova Scotia. It’s like Maine, before it got all commercial. But I’m not sure I’d want to be there in the winter time when I’m old and gray.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
In 2010 I went to a Reds game in Cleveland
I sat next to this retired baseball loving British guy. He flew out West to San Francisco or L.A. I can’t remember which, got an R.V. and started driving it across America. He said that eventually his trip will end in New York City and he will sell the R.V. and fly back to England.
PS if that is your dream you should checkout William Least Heat Moon’s book Blue Highways. In a short period of time he found out he wasn’t getting tenure and his wife was divorcing him, so without a job or a wife, he just got into his van and started driving all over the back roads or “blue highways” on his map, and wrote about his experience. It is a great book that I now would like to reread.

Reminds me of this guy. After decades in the bioengineering field, he found himself out of work and suddenly “overqualified” for what few jobs there were. After raiding his IRA to pay the mortgage, he realized he couldn’t keep his house, no matter how sentimentally attached to it he was. He sold it, and all his belongings, and bought a used RV. He’s driving across the country in it, looking for work along the way.

Hey, you guys remember when Weez was a mod for like 8 days?
But he disappeared for a little bit and then he wasn’t a mod anymore? Is no one going to acknowledge or explain that bit of tomfoolery???
expectations are premeditated resentments - cheshirecat
you are a beat reporter
you should sorta know what is going on!
Contributing little more than than snark and wittiness to SBN since 2007.
Actually, I think there's a few more mods besides Weez that aren't showing up
Gray, Nukkah (I guess they removed him when he quit) , and Andromache
Why aren't they in the poll?
and why do we have like 16 mods?!

sounds like
some mods are left off the list because there’s not enough room.
So, how are we peons to know who’s a mod and who isn’t?
Maybe they should just put up a list of who isn’t a mod!

Retirement & Such
San Diego or Hilton Head. I want a beach as well, I think, and plenty of golf courses, and good food scene.. obc and I should retire to the same place!
as for the “+1” or THIS, I vote we start using FVA’s “werk” suggestion. It just makes too much sense.

I see know why you assist Eradi on his HOF ballot. it explains the one annual vote for “National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum”.

Go west, young man.
The best places to retire are all on the West Coast.
1) San Diego. Perfect weather, plenty to do, beautiful scenery.
2) Central Coast. Someplace like San Luis Obispo. Small town, lots of hills for mountain biking, lots of ocean for ocean stuff. Year around temp variations are probably 57-68F. Sunny all the time.
3) If you must go inland, Boulder. Denver is stupid; you are next to some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, and you build a town in the part that looks like Kansas?

Santa Barbara is an underrated retirement town, home of Psych

And you go to bed at 8pm. Good reason to move west!
