So it appears that the only thing that could possibly keep the Reds from repeating as NL Central Division Champions in 2011 (apart from the normal causes of injury or underperformance) would be the lack of a great/good Shortstop or Left Fielder.
Would Red fans think its too much to give up if their Front Office sent Devin Mesoraco and Yonder Alonso to the perhaps cash strapped Dodgers for Rafael Furcal? This could be the clinching move to ensure top billing as the NL Central front runners come this season over Milwaukee and St. Louis. Would the Dodgers even take a move like this. If the Dodgers were trying to move salary, another option could be Chad Billingsley, but another prospect might have to be involved with a deal for him.
Alonso is blocked by Votto and will be for some time. He should still be a top 100 prospect this year. Mesoraco may be the better prospect right now, but the team is set at C for the next season at least with the Hanigan/Hernandez split, and will have a replacement soon enough with Yasmani Grandal.
With the Brewers having set the bar as far as off season moves. It seems like the Reds have been quiet or comfortable that they have what it takes to repeat. Personally, I think the difference could be whether or not Chapman is a part of the rotation or the bullpen. A move for a guy like Furcal might make the Chapman question not as important, at least for 2011.
