Wow, this column reads like a parody. As annoying as TLR seems, he must be an incredibly charming guy. Otherwise there’s no way he could get writers in his back pocket so easily.

And that’s what’s so interesting about this. Tony La Russa is resolute in his desire to prove that he can still beat the Reds, Cubs, Brewers, Astros, Pirates and the entire sabermetric movement.

I really doubt TLR wants to defeat “the entire sabermetric movement.” He wants to beat the other teams, and doesn’t mind at all if he comes off like an ass. Beating the sabermetric “movement” sounds much more like the writer’s wish than LaRussa’s.

Also, it’s funny how the Cards fans that have been around here this winter love to point out that Jocketty has a veteran fetish. Their current management is much more aggressive in pursuing vets.
