Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

3 players I'm excited about watching next year.

1. Drew Stubbs - Sorounded by players like Scott Rolen, Joey Votto and Jay Bruce there is no reason for this guy to be hitting under .300 next year. I see so much potential in this player. I'm excited about Drew Stubbs. I'd love for him to watch some Joe Morgan films and watch how Joe would get to first any way he could and then once he was there, there was no stopping him from getting to second. Joe's role on offense was to get on base/base runner and then harrass pitchers. Stealing bases and highlight reel type saves in the outfield bring morale, excitement and action to a team. Oh and I can't wait for 3  home runs a game at wrigley field.

2. Homer Bailey - He had a fast recovery last year and is in great shape. Last year at GAB I saw Bailey pitch 4 awesome innings just to give up the lead in the fifth. When he got yanked he went to the dugout and tossed a cooler, threw a bat, and kicked the wall. I like that he was so passionate about winning. He's a hard worker and if his Arm holds out and he can figure out how to conserve strength and pitch solid 6 innings I think he'll prove to be exciting to watch next year.

3. Mike Leake - I was excited about Leake last year and I still am. At moments I saw pitching genius. At other moments I saw pitching noobness. 2-0 fast balls? Constant hammering of the strike zone? I think he got away with it alot in college ball but it can't be done in the big league. Hopefully he is getting some pitching strategy 101 from Bronson and the pitching coach this off season. Oh and I watched at GAB a couple pitches come out of his hand that looked like boomerang. I'm excited to see what happens next year.

These are the guys I'm excited to see next year what happens. Some others are of course Joey Votto (His epic at bat last year at dodger's stadium was amazing), Travis Wood (8 innings no hits. This guy was awesome last year but the team let him down), Paul Janish (I'd love for him to become full time on the Reds), Jay Bruce (brings action to the RF), Corky Miller (Have you noticed when he comes up from the minors and catches our pitchers pitch better?).

Thanks, Finally got a break here in Afghanistan (first in 4 months) and just wanted to mention some players I rarely see discussed.

he’ll be exciting to watch. We’ll get to see him abusing walls, coolers and sports equipment!

really i just like to keep people guessing

and i’ve reached a point where i need to do something, and this is really my only chance to spend a year+ abroad. When I’m 40 have a wife, kids, and a job, my mid life crisis may happen, but none of those listed things would be happy with me going abroad for a year.

I mean I haven’t done paperwork for it yet, but from my understanding virtually every young person who applies, has a clean criminal record, a BA or better, and is a native English speaker is hired.

fun story:

The Turkish way to say “I just got fucked” in the work/unlucky sense is “I took one of three.”

While I think they’re talking more of the 8==D variety, I like to imagine it’s this optimistic way of saying “I’m only a third of the way fucked as I could be!”

Even though I usually roll my eyes when step 3 happens,

I think it’s usually pretty clear that step 1 is just a joke-y online persona, and so I’ve never really understood why people come up with these serious accusations of worthlessness.

C'mon, Brendan, your sister probably had a far more rewarding experience - and it's not like anyone's going to confuse her work with

justin’s. Being an NSET is a reasonably paid position in a first world country – It is not an attempt at altruism or charity. If the Korean educational system wanted dedicated teachers with better qualifications, they would look for them, but mostly they just want a native speaker to talk at the kids for a few hours a day.

i've read enough from the blog you linked me too to be cynical on the process

but i do like to teach. I am excited to work with young Koreans. But if it is as frustrating for me as it is for many others, I will be pretty pleased living in Korea being paid moderately well and receiving free housing for a year.

This is very different from the Peace Corps, Korea is the first world, and I will be working with private companies.

Not sure about soccer (haven't read Franklin Foer's book yet)

But it seems just as likely that cricket is the most popular game there. I have no idea what the popular sport in Afghanistan is (poppy growing and attempting not to die). It’s sandwiched between Iran (soccer) and Pakistan (cricket). All I know is that if there is an Afghanistan national team, it’s shit.
