Who are we playing?

So at this point, we would be 4th in the NL and playing the Phillies?

The way it works (assuming Philly has the best record in the NL)

The Phillies will play the wild card unless it’s the Braves, at which point the Phillies will play the division winner with the worse record.

It's too early to know for sure..

and it’s difficult to even make a prediction but here are some interesting things about the remaining schedule:

  • The Braves have 89 wins with four games to go… Should beat Andrew Miller this afternoon before the weekend series with the Phillies.
  • The Giants have 89 wins with five games to go… Lincecum pitches tonight at home against the Diamondbacks. The Giants then host the Padres for a season-ending weekend series.
  • Lincecum could (could!) then pitch again on Sunday (or Monday in a tiebreaker game?) if the Giants needed him to beat the Padres.
  • The Padres have 87 wins with five games to go. Two against the Cubs and then three in San Francisco. They’re in a tough spot having to catch either the Braves or the Giants and they’ve played .500 ball over the past 20 games and .350 ball over the past 30.

Soooooo…. I’ll say the Giants win the West. And the Braves win the WIld Card spot.

And if that’s my prediction and if that’s what happens it means the Reds start the NLDS in Philadelphia.

Here’s the most important thing for Reds fans when considering everyone’s remaining schedule and how seriously they take the games: If the Reds beat the Phillies in the NLDS next week they would (I think) have home field advantage in a Reds-Braves scenario (Braves being a wild card.. Reds being champs) but the Giants (4-3 against the Reds this year) would (I think) win a tiebreaker with the Reds if both teams were to finish with identical records. Hope Dusty realizes this.

I have four tickets to Game 7 of the NLCS so the Reds gotta win some more games!

I was raking leaves and I realized..

that I may have the NLDS format wrong.

It is 2-2-1, right?

And if so then if the Reds play the Phillies the first two games would be in Philadelphia.

Reds/Braves and Phillies/Giants

I still think the Braves will beat out the Padres this year with Bobby Cox being in his last year as manager. Reds did not do that well against the Braves in the season even suffering that crazy 9th inning blow-up dumb loss that was the epic of Cordero’s f***-ups. I think Reds have a good chance to beat out the Braves to go further with the right line-up and more intelligent use of our relief corps. Expect low scoring games so speed and flawless base running are important.
Phillies should have no problem with the Giants.
As for the Phillies-Reds NL Championship series, I like the Reds to win because I am a Reds fan. Let’s see how the first two series go.

It's always sunny in the playoffs

So if we play Philly, games 1 and 2 are Wednesday and Friday. Times TBA. From a quick look at Stubhub the ticket prices aren’t too bad, under $100 for SRO and little bit more for nose bleeds. I’m definitely going Wednesday. If anyone’s interested drop me a line.

To Philadelphia? Go, Ken!

By the way, I was just able to buy two singles (from Reds.com) in the same row for Game 2. (Game 2 being the Reds’ second home game in the NLDS. A game that will happen if the Reds have home field advantage but a game that might not happen if they do not have home field advantage and someone were to sweep someone else.)

What happens in this scenario?

Reds go 3-2 against Hou and Mil,
San Francisco 2-3 (AZ SD),
San Diego 4-1(Cubs, SF),
Atlanta 2-2 (Fla, Phi)

In all seriousness

Let’s try to not make FanPosts like this much, mkay? If all you have is a question, please put it in the comments of one of the active threads.

Thanks,

I think the guy/gal had a valid question and one that could be considered in a FanPost.

Just not a breathless anxious drive-by-and-slap-it-up FanPost like this.

A little more development and perhaps some analysis (and maybe a picture!) and we might have had something here.

definitely

I certainly don’t want to discourage FanPosts, but I want to remind people that the text limit is there for a reason.

Sorry, I don’t want this to be the conversation. Please ignore, except to remember what I said.
