This Day in Reds History - September 1

On this date in 1972 Cincinnati beat Montreal 1-0.

Johnny Bench singled in Pete Rose with the game winning run in the bottom of the twelfth inning to give the Reds the win. Rose went four for six in the game and the walk-off single was the only hit for Bench, who played Right Field in this game, all night off Montreal starter, and loser, Bill Stoneman.

I wasn’t REALLY named after Pete Rose, but I should have been. I grew up with a poster of him on my wall, and I cried myself to sleep in 1977 when his hit streak finally ended.

Damn I missed your B-day...a belated Happy couple days after your B-day day.

If a guy hits .300 every year, what does he have to look forward to? I always tried to stay around .190, with three or four RBI. And I tried to get them all in September. That way I always had something to talk about during the winter.
