7 pitch first; 33 pitch 2nd...
model of consistency. We go from hoping for a CG (wishing foolishly?) to hoping he can go 6 and keep the lead. Sounds about right.
Well, he got squeezed a bit, the Giants hit a couple pretty good pitches and Janish fucked that play at second up
not his best inning, but there were some reasons for it.
ugh
Like I said in the earlier thread…I think Dusty should have rested Janish today. I don’t care if he’s young and hasn’t played much this year. SS is a tough position, he’s been playing every day when he’s not used to it, it’s a west coast road trip, and it’s a day game after a night game. Valaika should have started.

he deserved to be ejected.
He should have realized the situation, and realized that staying in the game was more important for his team than correcting an injustice.

"never made a mistake on an appeal. bet on it." -- obc2
I wouldn't say so.
Howard stared him down, and the ump stared right back. Then on strike three, Howard dropped and F-bomb on him. That’ll get you run every time.

I gathered that.
MLB is entertainment. Its best players are the star performers. Those guys should be on the field as much as possible.
Offending the sensibilities of anonymous umpires shouldn’t interfere with putting out the best product possible. I recognize that to some fans those sensibilities are important. I just don’t agree with it.
You have to counter that with the rules of the game
The rulebook says you have to respect the decision of the umpires. Howard clearly didn’t do that.
Plus, I found the whole thing highly entertaining!
"Red Reporter - An elitist clique full of like-minded douchebags." - BK
That's a highly subjective rule
Ejecting Juan Castro in the first inning is one thing, but an (overrated) star in extras should get more slack.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
I’m not all about the idea that stars should be treated differently. That’s the kind of thing Colin Cowherd endorses.
You’re still OK by me, ken!
"Red Reporter - An elitist clique full of like-minded douchebags." - BK
But I qualified it!
You’re ok by me. Cowturd isn’t!
"Red Reporter - An elitist clique full of like-minded douchebags." - BK
i dont' believe that
a superstar shouldn’t get any more right to disrespect an umpire than a rookie upstart.
The first Votto ejection was deserved. The Rolen ejection was right, even if the umpire fucks up a call, players can’t shout in be in their face. I believe throwing a bat, helmet, etc warrants an ejection.
Should star basketball players have less fouls called on them for the same reason?

wild pitch on an intentional ball
went to the backstop, popped back to the catcher who caught it barehanded, turned and threw it to the pitcher who tagged a sliding Stubbs. As the pitcher brought the ball (in his glove) up to show the ump it popped out. Ump originally called him out and then changed it to safe when ball popped out

Right before rosters expands + wind + San Francisco is weird, that’s making for all these hijinks.

Hit it back up the middle, pitcher misplayed it, then gunned it past the 1B
Paulie went all the way to 3rd on the error

i like that howard was ejecting the umpire.
"We’ve done it before," Nix said of the comeback. "That’s why we’ll do it again. We did a great job of battling at-bats to get back in it."-Laynce Nix

We need to win this one. Otherwise this game wouldn't matter and he would sit.

I could not imagine a better game to start phone-graph watching than this one

Still relivin’ the memories

If a guy hits .300 every year, what does he have to look forward to? I always tried to stay around .190, with three or four RBI. And I tried to get them all in September. That way I always had something to talk about during the winter.

he signed it? Sweet! I want one!

I like Paulie a lot...
I really do. However, it seems I say/hear that a lot. Don’t get me wrong, he is fun as hell to watch as he goes in the hole or ranges up the middle to get to stuff that Cabrera would just watch…but more often than not it seems like it is a “oh, that would have been a great play” type of moment. Just sayin’
The reason for that is he gets, or nearly gets, to a ton of stuff most MLB shortstops wouldn't. A lot of his routinish plays would look great when made by other guys
My opinion, anyway.

SloCab would've had that one

Catch ya later, RR's.
I can’t grill cow, drink beer, and kick ass while typing. I expect nothing less than a big ol’ DUBYA and a snarky game recap. Cheers.
