Farmers Only: Devin Mesoraco keeps on hitting
\
- Louisville lost to Toledo 9-4. Juan Francisco went 3-3 and Yonder Alonso went 2-5. If these guys are indeed in trade discussions, they picked the right time to get hot. Todd Frazier went 2-4. Up Next: Edinson Volquez makes possibly his last rehab start at 7:05.
- Carolina won 6-2. Travis Webb allowed 2 runs in 5 innings, and Joe Krebs and Federico Baez combined to throw 4 shutout innings in relief. Sean Henry went 3-5, Sean Danielson went 2-4, and Dave Sappelt went 2-4 with his 6th homer on the year. Then there was Devin. He went 3-4 with a double, triple, and his 18th homer on the season. He's now OPSing .923 in AA and .993 total for the season. Up Next: Scott Carroll starts at 8:05.
- Lynchburg lost to Wilmington 11-3. After a terrible start to the game, Jeff Jeffords and Andrew Bowman combined to throw 4.1 shutout innings of relief. Recent signing Felix Perez went 2-4 and Neftali Soto went 3-5. Up Next: Jordan Hotchkiss starts at 6:05.
- Dayton beat Bowling Green 4-1. Justin Walker threw 6 innings of 1 run ball, and former starter Pedro Villareal threw 2 perfect innings of relief. Henry Rodriguez went 2-4 with a double and his 9th homer, and Mark Fleury went 3-4 with a double and 2 homers (8 on the year). Up Next: Richard Bowen starts at 8:00.
- Billings beat Missoula 4-3 in 10 innings. Trey Manz and Oliver Santos were both 2-4, and Juan Duran was 1-3 with a walk. Up Next: Clayton Shunick starts at 9:00.
- AZL Reds lost 11-7. Juan Silva went 3-5, Junior Arias went 2-5, and Dominic D'Anna went 2-3 with 2 walks. This year's 31st round draft pick, D'Anna is hitting .449/.578/.633 in rookie ball with 11 walks to only 8 strikeouts. I'd say he's ready for a higher level. Up Next: Someone starts at 9:00.

Is Jesus Montero that much better of a prospect than Mesoraco...
That said, would you give the Mariners Mesoraco + (Alonso or Francisco) + (AAAA player with low-medium ceiling) for Lee?
No, for 2 reasons
Catching is so hard to come by, that I would almost never give it up. And Devin is looking like he could have elite (think 30 hr) power potential to go with good D. Since both Yonder and END are blocked I’d much rather deal both of them than one of them and Devin.
FWIW, the Reds seem really high on Devin so I doubt he’ll get dealt.

Agree with everything you said except that the Reds are high on Mesoraco
They just used their 12th pick on a catcher with good pitching on the board. High isn’t the word I’d use.

Does that mean they weren't high on Votto when they took Yonder?
I think, in both cases, they took who they thought was the best player available

I would say yes, Montero is that much better of a prospect
Montero is 20 and already has 300 PA in AAA. Mesorasco is 22 and just moved up to AA. Montero has a career line of .309/.368/.486 in the minors, Mesoraco’s is .258/.328/.430. Mesoraco is having a better year this year, but he also had nearly 2/3rds of his PA in High-A ball, where he was right at the average age and Montero has spent the whole season in AAA.
Mesoraco might be developing into a quality prospect, but Montero has always been a great hitting prospect, though he may not stick at catcher because his defense is weak.

I'm beginning to think Mesoraco/END/pitcher is what it would take to beat NYY
I wouldn’t give them both Alonso and Mesoraco though. Would Mesoraco/END/Homer be too much for Lee?

I don't see anyone trading for Homer
I’d be too scared of a serious shoulder problem right now.

Homer is waaay under-valued
I still think he has the capability to be a solid piece of the Reds rotation… I think they would want Wood and I don’t know if I’d give him up either
I think he

Mobile fuckup
I think he may end up being the odd man out in the long run. Wood seems like exactly the type of pitcher Jocketty likes, but I’d have nonproblem parting with him in the right deal. Oh yeah, he has Cliff Lee connections too, so maybe we shouldn’t deal him to the M’s.

if so
it’s just another terrible day for baseball thanks to the yankees.
they already have 8 (?) all stars.
Them signing Tex, CC and Burnett was terrible
They’re just using prospects for a rental here. I don’t have a problem with that.
I fucking hate the Yankees
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, is just a freight train coming your way...
the NY media guys are still saying it's the Yankees deal
I can’t see anyone giving up a better prospect than Montero, but I could see teams putting together a better package than what the Yankees can do. So, it depends on if the Mariners really want Montero.

Or if the Yankees offered Montero in the first place
You never can tell with the NY media.

They're the Yankees, man.
They get what they want. It’s fucking dumb, but that’s how it is. I hate the Yankees as much as I hate the Heat. small market grumbling! I was excited to be in the Lee race. But if the Yankees want him, they’ll assuredly get what they want because they’re an evil empire. Go get Haren and Drew! GOO!
I don't know why, but that cracked me up. I think it's the way it's typed.

Everyone thought a big market team was going to sign Chapman, too
This ain’t over yet. I trust our GM to do the right thing. (Did I really just say that???)

Yeah, but the right thing ISN'T Yonder/END/Mesoraco or some such
And that’s what it would take to beat the Yanks reported package.
