Game 103, Thread 3: So, there are more cities with just soccer and hockey as their pro sports than just baseball and basketball
I can think of at least two with soccer and hockey. Can you name them?
Oh, and the Reds are rallying here with a 5-2 lead now.

strange move...
HAving Hanigan bunt, to me, was a sure sign that Wood was going to stay in the game. At only 83 pitches, this is a strange move.
Also, didn’t the bullpen just pitch 5+innings yesterday?

yeah, but there are a lot of rested guys.
Masset, Rhodes, Smith, and CoCo should all be good to go.
Even Fisher could probably go again if need be. Plus, with the off-day tomorrow, Dusty can afford to do this.

i was trying to figure out what in the world you guys were talking about

In 2001, during its first season
Some kid named Gareth won it, I think.

there was a GREAT show on around 02-04 there called Fame Academy
It was like Idol except they had to play instruments and write their own music too.
Best talent I’ve ever seen on any of those shows (from the UK anyway)
see what I did there with uzr? it’s like a LOL cats saber-pun combo.--Verka Serduchka
my favorite show in the uk is called "come dine with me"
i watched it while cyn was sleeping off jet lag. Basically, 4 jerks have a dinner-party competition & each half-hour episode is one of them hosting the other 3. It’s as entertaining as you’d expect from watching British people cooking.
The whole "Hells Kitchen" thing started there too
It was as awful there as it is here.
Also, “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!”. Worst show ever. Did that ever come to the US?
see what I did there with uzr? it’s like a LOL cats saber-pun combo.--Verka Serduchka
Yup
Spencer and Heidi were on it, but that’s all I remember. And Big Brother is wildly popular over there. But most of our reality competition shows come from there. Strictly Come Dancing became Dancing With the Stars.
by Brendanukkah on Jul 28, 2010 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, but big brother is kinda cool there because they can actually show the housemates actually having sex
Speaking of which, the “watershed” thing is crazy over there.
It’s like, you hit 9 p.m. and all of a sudden anything goes. If I remember correctly, I saw Showgirls on one of the national channels there, uncensored. It came on at 9.

BGT is kind of entertaining – Though I love Nick Cannon(‘s wardrobe) I feel like America’s version has too many sexed up toddlers and not enough dancing pets.

She faded into obscurity quick enough. I only watched the hilarious audition episodes.

the week we were there, Boyle was in Heathrow and lost her mind. Tried singing into a mop, among other things. A shame we didn’t see it.

Assuming that pinch hitting Nix was a good idea...
(and I think it was questionable at best)….can someone tell me why we wouldn’t keep him in to play LF over Gomes to upgrade the defense with a 3 run lead in the later innings? Are they going to try to get 2 innings out of Smith? That is the only thing I can think of. That seems unnecessary with Masset/Rhodes/Cordero all fresh and Fisher probably ok to go as well. Hmmm.

I'm hoping this is not the case.
Nothing against Nix, but Dickerson offers a lot more value to this team when healthy. His speed, defense, and ability to get on base outweigh Nix’s power in my mind.

I’d much rather have Dickerson or Dorn, for that matter, on the team

and then pinch hit with a pitcher

"People don't kill people. Burning oreo packages kill people."
Agreed, and here's why:
By early September we are ahead of the Cardinals by 8 games in the division, so they call up Yonder to give Votto a breather to get ready for the playoffs. Votto is stuck at 36 homers, but he gets a good rest for a couple weeks.
Meanwhile, Yonder goes 25-60 with 5 homers in his cup of coffee, which persuades the Marlins in the offseason to trade HanRam for him, straight up.
Oh, and the rest means Votto hits 8 homers in the playoffs on the way to winning World Series MVP.
