This Day in Reds History - July 29

On this date in 1968 the Reds beat the Phillies 6-1.

Star-divide

George Culver threw a no-hitter and Alex Johnson led the offense. Culver struck out 4 and walked 5 in the win. The lone Phils run came in the second inning when Dick Allen reached on an error by Tony Perez and advanced to second on an error by Woody Woodward. Allen went to third on a ground out and then scored on a sac fly by Cookie Rojas.

Boy this a bleak offensive line up for the Reds

Alex Johson never panned out, Helms had his best years with other teams, Pavletich had something like 18 hits a year, Corrales was a worse hitter than Pavletich, Woody Woodward couldn’t hit a beach ball with side of of a side of barn.

Though some might argue that "best utility player" is a contradiction in terms.
