Deadbirds Dodgers Game Thread
Lose, lose, loooooooose Deadbirds! Fall from your nest and break your eggs on the cruel ground below, then fry up in this hot, hot heat! We gotta keep that one game lead.
Cardinals and Dodgers are on MLB Network right now. In the absence of Our Favorite Team(TM) playing tonight, this is the Next Best Thing.

For those who don't know, this is Voodoo Albert. Feel free to stick a virtual pin in him.

someone needs to correct the crime that is lack of mlb network in basic cable packages. i don’t get it either, and it stinks.

I am thrilled for your success, hell I'm amazed by it. Nobody who knows you saw this coming.

ye gods
Is Carp gonna get CG?
The Dodgers are already on their 5th pitcher.

half game back
And for once, I agree with the Fay.
But then there’s this from Dusty Baker on the decision the rotation:
"You know there’s a lot of things that go into. It’s not always who’s pitching the best. It’s whose contract is what and who has options and various things."
Actually, at this point, it has to be who’s pitcching the best, doesn’t it?

i disagree
for one, it’s not a definite that Wood is better than Harang over the next month or so. i dont know if im confident enough either way to make a wager. and 2) once you move Harang, that’s it. you either have to trade, release, or move him to the ‘pen. you cant trade him because you wont get anything, you cant release him because that’s insane, and i guess you could move him to the ’pen, but i doubt he would be happy. that counts for something.
Wood has made 3 starts in the majors. that’s it. i like him as a prospect and im excited about his kind of talent filling out the back end of the rotation for the next few years, but he can be sent to AAA with no problems right now. you can bring him back whenever you have to and he cant really be all that angry about it. Dusty is right here. the best decision in this case is to go with the lesser pitcher (i dont think he is verifiably the “lesser” pitcher, but that’s the perception anyway).

Fay
doesn’t say he expects the Reds to move Harang to the pen or release him.
He thinks they should leave him on the DL to make some rehab starts.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
i dont think so
read his last line again. seems to me like he’s saying that Wood is pitching better than Harang and we are in a pennant race, so egos need to be set aside for the good of the team. i guess we should ask him directly, but it seems that he’s suggesting that when Harang comes off the DL, whenever that may be, Wood should still be in the rotation.

I read the last line
But taken as part of the whole piece…seems to me he’s only talking about this weekend.
Here’s what I think is going to happen: Wood, Johnny Cueto and Mike Leake will start the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and Aaron Harang will make a rehab start or two.
He introduces what Dusty said with this:
But then there’s this from Dusty Baker on the decision the rotation:
The way I see it, Fay’s last line is returning to his opening premise: who’s going to pitch this weekend.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
i dont know
he’s implying the judgment that Wood is better than Harang. i doubt he means “just for this weekend”.

well, that's how I read it when I said I agreed with him
It does seem like the Reds can’t decide who’s going to pitch this weekend, since they haven’t announced it.
For longer than that, no point in worrying about it now. Like they say, these things usually work themselves out. Someone might be traded. Someone might be injured. Someone might reach their innings limit. Someone might just start sucking like a black hole.
If they do have Harang pitch a couple of rehab games, that could settle it. If he sucks, they will probably let him pitch a few more. If he’s lights-out, they’ll activate him.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
i think that's a solid plan
the quibble i had was with the notion that Wood > Harang (back injury aside). it may be true, but is in absolutely no way verifiable and the opposite is just as likely to be true.
