Brennaman/Brantley ranked 2nd worst broadcasting team by GQ
The commentary is hilarious.
"Brantley, a.k.a. "The Cowboy," has things to say, dammit! Unfortunately, the things Brantley has to say are usually all filler, which he nevertheless delivers in a grave, condescending tone. And Brennaman, like Brantley, is more than happy to lead a discussion away from baseball—like in the direction of BBQ ribs, which, you'll be glad to know, the Cowboy eats a lot of."

Ha! that is hilarious
But how in the world do they rank worse than Dibble and Carpenter?
Bart: "Dad, what's a Muppet?"
Homer: "Well, it's not quite a mop, not quite a puppet, but man... (laughs, then pauses) So, to answer you question, I don't know."
Dibble and Carpenter actually talk about baseball
I don’t mind Dibble, actually. It’s Carpenter that is truly awful.
I have no issue with Hawk Harrelson being No.1 by himself. None.
Eighty-five percent of the f*ckin' world is working. The other fifteen percent come out here. A f*ckin' playground for the cocks*ckers.

When I didn't have expanded cable, I still couldn't watch WGN white Sox games
because of his terrible-ness. Just a miserable broadcaster
How are the Mets on the good side?

Darling is good
But Hernandez is horrible – I don’t know why they’re in the top 5, because he ruins it.
you don't know the first thing about first base.

Is this just radio?
Because if it included TV, Paul Keels + anyone gets the nod as the worst team.
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, is just a freight train coming your way...

Just TV, I believe
and it looks like it’s only who that guy happened to listen to that night. Otherwise, I think he’d be more favorable with tHom, who is much better with Welsh. But tHom & Brantley is easily the worst broadcasting team for the Reds, and that includes Keels & anybody. Now if they put Keels with Brantley, I’d probably just give up baseball watching all together.

Interesting: I just picked up a used set of the 1975 WS dvds. One of the first things I noticed was that the commentary (Boston) struck me as very, very good.
The second thing I noticed was that the game moved much, much faster – there was much less time to fill, so the play by play guy didn’t have to start discussing ice cream.
This team wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for all the losing.
other teams manage to broadcast today without resorting to inane banter about non-baseball things
any unemployed folks out there want a project to do? it would be interesting to watch and listen to every brantley tv and radio broadcast and see how much time he spends talking about things other than baseball. compare broadcast partners and see if it makes a difference. i bet thom is the worst for brantley.
isnt not talking about baseball
kinda what happens in almost every game thread?
i have no problem with some of the conversational diversons the broadcast team takes on the radio. 4+ hours is a lot of time to fill.

Yes, you are right. But we’re all a bunch of assholes not being paid to talk about baseball.

exactly. it's not our job.
I realize when we have a chance to listen to broadcasts from back in the day, we get a select few who were probably good at their job (I love those old games on MLB Network.) But with MLB.TV and Extra Innings, as well as the national broadcasts, we have a lot of opportunities to listen to a variety of broadcast teams, and this time, it’s not just irrational nostalgia – broadcasters really were better. I mean, think about how those we consider the best today have been around for a long time.
I wonder why that is.
Boy talk about an obvious assessment
Although recently as the team has perked up sMarty has actually got into the games a bit…
’tHom needs on the other hand, to shut the fuck up.
Though some might argue that "best utility player" is a contradiction in terms.
