SIS All Star Break Burger Edition
I picked up the recent Cincinnati Magazine to get more detail and clarity on the burgers chosen as the Best 40 in the tristate region. Granted, several local Bests were left off the list but I must admit I was intrigued by a few places that I had not previously been aware of and a couple I had forgotten to include in the burger tour. In reverse order the list:
40 - 915 Pub and Grill, Black and Bleu Burger (Ft Thomas) $6.75
39 - Black Angus Burger and Brews, Everyday Angus (Woodlawn) $7.99
38 - The Black Sheep, Bah Bah Black Sheep Burger (Cheviot) $6.99
37 - Fatburger, Fatburger with Cheese (Oakley) $3.89

TTC is the best.
Screw all the fancy pants yuppie bullshit sauces/cheeses/toppings for their burgers. (And all the yuppies that pack the place on a regular basis.) Grilled onions and american cheese is the way to go, paired with a Bell’s Two Hearted Ale. Paula’s would be a close second in my opinion. As far as omissions go, I’ve heard good things about Herb and Thelma’s and Bard’s, both in Covington.
Watch it, ass blood.

Going to Herb and Thelma's before the 7/16 game.
As far as that review goes…I have occasionally had an overcooked burger there, but the majority of the time it is in the medrare to medium range. I believe that the quality of the burger is inversely proportional to the business of the restaurant. I go on Tuesdays at around 10pm, and at that time slot have never left unhappy.
I have never and will never eat at Gordo’s due to a personal vendetta. I have worked events with the guy while he was involved with the JR restaurant group, and he was a total misogynistic prick to a good friend of mine.
Watch it, ass blood.
"I believe that the quality of the burger is inversely proportional to the business of the restaurant."
well, that’s a major problem
and if you have worked in a restaurant you should understand that
if you are cooking 20 burgers on a small flat top grill, it is easier to overcook a burger than when you only have 4 burgers on.
Watch it, ass blood.
i have never worked in a restaurant, but i have frequented them
and it seems like it would be most important to serve your best food when the majority of people are there. if i have to wait until 10:00 to eat something decent at your establishment, i’m not eating there.
you should put your vendetta aside
and go to Gordo’s, b/c right now for my $$$$ they are the best in Cincinnati

I would
if it meant eating ice cream vs. eating an empty cone.
In any case, your body really isn’t supposed to produce lactase after you’re weaned. Northern Europeans and some Africans are weird in that they can digest lactose in adulthood.
I’ve been known to buy special lactose-free milk for my cat. It may not be natural, but she likes it.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
interesting tidbit about Lactaid milk
every now and then it’s cheaper than regular milk up in these parts, and we’ll pick some up. It lasts twice as long as regular milk, but I’m guessing that’s cuz it’s not really dairy.
but, whenever my wife used to buy soy milk when she was on this smoothie kick, the soy milk always spoiled quicker than lactaid milk. I thought they were the same thing….
by Highlifeman21 on Jul 12, 2010 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions
this is true
I’ve noticed that as well.
Lactaid milk is really dairy. It’s regular milk, just with the enzyme that lactose-intolerant people are missing added.
The reason it lasts longer is because it uses a different type of pasteurization than most. “Ultra pasteurization” raises the temperature of the milk much higher than regular pasteurization, but for a much shorter period of time (like a fraction of a second). The result is longer shelf life.
Some regular milk is pasteurized this way, too, and it also has that longer shelf life.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
And then there is radiated milk

I am thrilled for your success, hell I'm amazed by it. Nobody who knows you saw this coming.

On my solo Rockville Burger Tour
I stopped at Urban Burger tonight. I got the Savannah Burger, which came with provolone cheese, thick bacon, and honey BBQ sauce. The burger is also nice and thick, but the bun was ever so slightly on the chewy side. I got some of their honey root beer to wash it down, and complimented it with an order of the onion rings – which are delicious but probably best split between two to three people.
Very high marks for Urban Burger!
