The draft resumes today at noon for picks 31-50.  Thundering Turtle did some excellent analysis of the picks yesterday, and hopefully will continue today.  On to the games:

  • Louisville lost 7-6 in a back and forth game against Syracuse.  Homer Bailey started the game on a rehab start and didn't impress, giving up 5 runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched.  After he left down 5-0, the Bats answered with 6 runs, including a 3-run homer by Zack Cozart.  Unfortunately, Louisville's bullpen situation isn't any better than Cincinnati's, so despite hitless outings by Ben Jukich (2/3 IP) and Carlos Fisher (2 IP), a bad outing by one reliever (Jared Burton gave up a 2-run homer in the 8th) lets the team down.  Isn't this supposed to be where we find our answers?  Up next: Matt Maloney tries to stop the bleeding at 7 against Syracuse.
  • Carolina lost 3-2 in 12 innings, despite a good outing by Tom Cochran.  Cochran gave up 1 run in 7 innings with 4 strikeouts and no walks.  Jordan Smith and Jeremy Horst gave up 1 run each from the bullpen and that was that.  Sean Danielson and Denis Phipps drove in the two Mudcat runs.  Up next: Matt Fairel tries to right his ship at 11:15 AM.
  • Lynchburg lost too, 10-6 in a ridiculous extra inning game.  After taking a 6-5 lead in the 11th inning on a Kevyn Feiner solo HR, Andrew Bowman allowed a run to tie the game and gave up a grand slam to end it.  On the bright side, Josh Fellhauer and Miguel Rojas had three hits each and Curt Partch had a decent start, giving up 2 ER in 5 2/3 innings.  Up next: Boxy Brown gets Salem at 7:05.
  • Dayton was the only team to win, beating Beloit 5-2Ricky Bowen had a great start in his first Dayton start, going 5 innings and only giving up 2 hits and no runs.  Last year's 43rd round pick struck out 6 and walked nobody.  Mariekson Gregorius was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI, and Frank Pfister and Josh Garton had multi-hit games as well.  Up next: J.C. Sulbaran takes on Beloit at 8:00.
