On this day in 1959 Don Newcombe led the Reds to a 17-3 win over the Dodgers.

Newcombe threw a complete game and went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Reds. He had four singles, walked twice, scored three runs and knocked in four. Gus Bell, Dutch Dotterer, and Jim Pendleton all homered for the Reds
