Who's in for a Dragons game? ***UPDATE***
I'm back in Dayton, and I have the urge to go by ol' 5/3 Field. I've got a lot of great memories of seeing future Reds greats, like Big Adam Dunn, Austin Kearns, and... uh, Wily Mo Pena there, to name a few. My parents were there during that epic brawl. I got my only foul ball there.
So who's with me? I know ZJiff and cesarhernandez had tentatively said yes. I'm looking at the game against Ft. Wayne (I think) on Tuesday, May 11. I've talked to a friend of mine who works with the Dragons, and we should be able to get tickets. Let me know if you're interested in the comments. I'd like to have a firm number by the end of Friday.
***UPDATE***
The tickets are squared away. I've got eight reserved. I'm planning on being at the Southern Belle at 6:00 and we can meet up there. It's right next to Canal Street Tavern, just across from 5/3 Field. If you need to get ahold of me, my e-mail is at the bottom of the main page. I can send you my cell phone number if you want. See you there!

or bike!
I Googled “Dayton Cincinnati” because I couldn’t remember how far apart they were.
The first link I got was this one, which is at the BBC site. It’s pretty funny.
Dayton is quite a bit smaller than Cincinnati, but living in either one, there will probably come a day where you need to get to the other city – for a cheap flight, a job, to visit someone, to go to a shopping mall, etc. Even if you’re just visiting, you may realise that you can’t see a Major League baseball game in Dayton, and you can’t see a Wright Brothers aeroplane in Cincinnati. Sometimes, after a long night you might just wake up in the wrong city. In such cases, it’s useful to know how to get to Dayton from Cincinnati or to Cincinnati from Dayton.
It says you can use the Little Miami Scenic Trail to bike between the cities. And that you can find fossils along the trail. Doesn’t say what kind of fossils, but apparently, Ohio used to be underwater and you can find a lot of marine fossils throughout the state.

That article is amazing.

These.
Crinoids, mollusks, other small stuff.

Pennsylvania?
That’s not in Ohio!

The trilobite is the state fossil
They’re everywhere around here.

We have a state fossil? That's bizarre. I wonder if other states do.

Missouri's is the crinoid.
Delocrinus missouriensis.
That’s totally from memory. Cough.

The state drink of Ohio is tomato juice.
The state bird is the cardinal, the state flower is the scarlet carnation, and the state rock song is “Hang on, Sloopy.” Ohio became a state on March 1, 1803. That’s all from memory, too. What else you got, kid? ;)
by the finest muffins on May 6, 2010 10:30 AM EDT up reply actions
Our state insect is the honey bee, apis mellifera...
Which isn’t even native to the United States, much less Missouri. That really is from memory.
"People don't kill people. Burning oreo packages kill people."
Yikes!
Apis mellifera.
I didn’t capitalize the genus name! That could have been a disaster!

Well, the ones special enough to be honored as "official" have seven spots.
It seems other types of ladybugs also reside in the state. No word yet on how this has affected the relationships amongst ladybug species of Ohio. I’m guessing there’s some jealousy afoot (aleg?)

"People don't kill people. Burning oreo packages kill people."
why do you hate immigrants?
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I don't.
These guys and gals were introduced for bio control. As long as you do necessary research to make sure that you don’t screw up and introduce something that might feed on local fauna and flora. The weevil Rhinocyllus conicus for example was introduced to control thistle, unfortunately, adequate research wasn’t done and now are huge pests of several native plants. Whoops.

I liked that we were the only state with a state rock song for the longest time
Now a couple others have them. For instance, Oklahoma’s is “Do You Realize??” by native sons The Flaming Lips. “Do you realize that everyone someday will die?” Seems a pretty Oklahoman attitude.
On another note, the guy next to me at the Lips show dropped down on his knee and proposed to his girlfriend as they played this song in the encore, with streamers, and confetti and balloons everywhere. You’re not gonna top that one, kids.
by Brendanukkah on May 6, 2010 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions
I'm not surprised Oklahoma jumped eagerly on the state rock song bandwagon
considering their regular state song was written by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

everywhere?
You trip over them in your front yard?
I did find a web site that claimed while fossils are found all over Ohio, you’re pretty much only allowed to collect them in the southwest area of the state.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
That's somewhat true
If you’re looking for them, they can be found rather plentifully at Caesar Creek State Park in Wilmington.
"Red Reporter - An elitist clique full of like-minded douchebags." - BK
that looks like an awesome park
I’ll have to check it out sometime.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
btw
Do you need a permit to collect fossils in Ohio?
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I don't think so.
Here’s ODNR’s Geofacts, spelling out some fossil info.
"Red Reporter - An elitist clique full of like-minded douchebags." - BK
thanks
It says Caesar Creek requires a permit, but it’s free.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I've collected fossils from Caesar's Creek for school
The teachers may have had a permit, but I know I sure didn’t. I think you’d be ok. Seriously, they’re everywhere at Caesar’s Creek.
the trilobite
is also the Pennsylvania state fossil.
New York’s state fossil is George Steinbrenner. Just kidding. It’s Eurypterus remipes, the “sea scorpion.”
I would guess Hawaii doesn’t have a state fossil. It’s too new for fossils.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

Well then...I need a ticket....maybe 2.
