Game 42, Thread 2: I swear to God, if they blow this lead...
The Reds are beating up on that scrubby other Ohio team, as well they should. Yesterday's loss will stay with us for a long time, but a win tonight will be a good step towards putting it behind us. The Reds are currently up 4-1, and Laynce Nix is surprisingly hot.

Not related to the current game, but...
Anyone buying Cowboy’s statement that Volquez can pitch right now? I was thinking about it in spring training, that if they had quickly diagnosed Volquez’s elbow, he would’ve had another 1-2 months of rehab, and might now be having some minor league starts. He’d replace Harang in the rotation come mid-June, when Dusty finally loses patience with Harang.
Just a thought – did the Reds’ medical staff miss on this one with Volquez?

I don't think so
If that’s true, suspension doesn’t mean anything. Well, maybe for big leaguers. But what about the minor leaguers? Can they just go down to A-ball or up to AAA to get around a suspension? I doubt it.

No.
Even when someone has come back early from Tommy John, they have not fully recovered till at least a year has elapsed (most even longer). I can’t think of anyone off the top of my head that this didn’t apply to.

When you come to the fork in the road, take it.
I think it's too early to say with him
The way it usually works is they try to come back early, play for awhile, then end up going on the DL again with elbow tendonitis or some such thing.
His WHIP so far this year is a not terribly impressive 1.7.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Volquez's ulnar collateral ligament was almost completely torn
And he also had a tear in the flexor mass of his elbow. So it might take him a bit longer to come back.
"It will most likely be 2011 before you see the old Edinson Volquez is back," Reds trainer Mark Mann said in August.

It’s a little strange how both Lopez and Kearns have revived their careers once they left.
Yeah, like the lack of lineup support.
Lopez couldn’t really handle Frank and pouted when they weren’t winning and he was cold. Kearns was hurt a lot and they just kept throwing him out there. But Kearns swing is too long regardless and he doesn’t seem to have the capacity to change it. His power was enhanced by your ballpark and Bowden used and abused everybody who was part of that deal.

we can meet in person talk about how we have two mutual friends! The twins, Gray! THE TWINS!
laura and her husband are great fun people

also, Jen still owes me $20.
I gave it to her when we were drunk, but apparently I’m the only one who remembers.

Just found out I am going to the finale of that series

It will be the third new park for me this year.
Watch it, ass blood.

I’ll be at the Sunday and probably the Saturday games in Philly. Not the first two, though.

it was great to win after yesterday
but I still feel weird about it. Maybe I was just a bit traumatized. I can’t even say exactly why it is still unsettling me—my worst fear didn’t happen, that the losing streak would continue, but everything isn’t back to normal yet for me. I think it might take a week to get that out of my system. Or just a lot of Rolen in the lineup.
Nix and Gomes played really well and the defense was back in shape tonght. Arroyo pitched well enough to win and teh bullpen didn’t give up any runs. I’m happy with the game overall.
yeah it's been great to come here and discuss 5/20
I feel sorry for the fans who just had to hear it—that would have been tough—no place to properly vent.
I actually think Rolen not being in the lineup during it might really help. We only win when Rolen is in the game so we can just attribute it to that and move on lol
Rolen won't be able to give you more than 140 games
