Farmers Only: Matt Fairel does his part to ease the pain of Reds fans
- Louisville lost to Lehigh Valley 8-4. Chad Reineke made his first start of the year, going 5 innings of 3 run ball. Wilkin Castillo had a home run for the Bats, one of only two extra base hits on the night. Ben Jukich gave up 2 runs in the 7th to break a 3-3 tie and earn the loss. Up next: Matt Maloney takes on Lehigh Valley at 7:05.
- Carolina beat Chattanooga 6-4, behind a solid start by Alexander Smit. The Dutchman allowed 3 runs in 5 innings, and got lots of run support. Kris Negron, Denis Phipps, and Dave Sappelt all had multi-hit games. Up next: There's no starter listed for the 'Cats game against Chattanooga at 7:15, but it should be Matt Klinker's turn. Is there a roster move coming? Stay tuned.
- Lynchburg beat Winston-Salem 9-2 on another strong start by Matt Fairel. Matt went 7 innings and gave up 2 runs, while striking out 5 and walking just 1. The offense exploded for 15 hits, with Jose Gualdron leading the way with 3 of them. Alex Buchholz drove in 3 runs for the Hillcats, and despite going 1-for-5, Devin Mesoraco drove in 2. Cody Puckett hit his 5th HR of the year in this one as well. Up next: James Avery makes his first start of the year against Winston-Salem at 7:00.
- Dayton lost to Lansing, 3-2. Justin Walker gave up 3 runs in 6 inning and struck out 6, and Josh Garton led the offense with a 2-for-4 evening. Up next: Jacob Johnson takes the hill against Bowling Green at 7.

Maybe Klinker's getting the call to replace Mike Lincoln.

Again, not sure about the Lincoln hate
He was solid for two innings, and I can’t really blame him for the 3rd inning, which he shouldn’t have been out there anyway.
Maybe Klinker’s getting the call to replace Dusty.

Okay, so Lincoln is now your guy and justin's guy.
Amazing that of all people Mike Lincoln keeps getting support. He’s not good enough. Period. I don’t care about yesterday under a microscope.

He's not "my guy"
But I’m also not taking yesterday by itself. He’s been a pretty solid low-leverage guy for the past month or so. Reliever performance is extremely volatile, and he’s bound to have a few blowups and a few good performances.
Plus, there’s no one really to replace him right now. We’ve called up 2 youngsters from AAA to the pen so far (Ondrusek to start, now Fisher) and both have struggled mightily. If and when Burton is ready to return, I’d be fine with replacing Lincoln with him, but until then, he’s fine for situations like yesterday. The problem is Dusty’s use of him (notice how Dusty is at the center of many of the team’s problems?)

Chad Reineke is spot starting, yet Klinker is still in AA.
I really, really hope he’s getting a promotion. Unfortunately, the rain out earlier this week might just mean they don’t know if he can throw on short rest.

The last time he started was the 15th, IIRC
So I don’t think rest works as an excuse. Still nothing listed, for what that’s worth.
