Farmers Only: Travis Wood steps his game up to be like the big leaguers

  • Louisville beat Lehigh Valley 2-1 in a 16 inning thriller.  Yonder Alonso's solo home run was the only run off of IronPigs starter Nate Bump, but the real story was Bats starter Travis Wood, who put in his best performance of the year.  Woody pitched 8 strong innings, only giving up 2 hits and a run, and struck out a season-high 11 hitters.  Zack Cozart drove in the winning run.  Up next: Aroldis Chapman takes the hill at 7:05.
  • Carolina split a doubleheader with Jacksonville, winning the first game 3-2 and dropping the second 4-3Tom Cochran pitched well in the first game, but earned a no-decision with a 5 inning, 2 run, 7 strikeout effort.  Sean Henry's walk off homer in the 8th won the game.  In game 2, Dallas Buck had a bit of trouble, only pitching 3 innings, and Eric Eymann got 2 of the Mudcats 4 hits.  Up next: Travis Webb takes the mound against Jacksonville at 7:15.
  • Lynchburg also split a doubleheader, winning the first game 5-1 and losing the second 5-4Curtis Partch pitched a great game, going 6 innings and only giving up 1 run, his best start of the year so far.  Nick Christiani pitched a perfect 7th to preserve the win.  Josh Fellhauer and Cody Puckett both homered.  Brad Boxberger pitched game 2, only going 4 innings, giving up 3 runs.  Carlos Mendez and Kevyn Feiner had two hits each.  Up next: Mark Serrano takes on Wilmington at 6:05.
  • Dayton lost to Lansing 6-3, despite a decent start by J.C. Sulbaran.  J.C. only gave up 1 earned run in 6 innings, and had 6 strikeouts.  Frank Pfister led the hit parade with 3 hits.  Up next: Josh Ravin gets the ball against Lansing at 7.
