It's the rubber match in what has been a fun series to watch so far. Both games have been fairly well played on both sides with only a couple of mistakes for either team. That, more than anything, gives me hope that the Reds are possibly turning the corner on this winning thing. Even if they don't take today's game, I appreciate how they've played and am looking forward to what they can do over the next couple of months.
Enough with the pleasantries. They need kick the Cardinals' butts today. Sending the Redbirds packing in second place, after they just got swept by the last place team in the division, could be demoralizing enough to send them into a small tailspin and give the Reds a chance to create some space. Is it too early to be talking playoffs? Sure, but that doesn't mean that being in first place right now can't have a psychological advantage. Remember, this is a team that has spent a grand total of 2 days in first place over the last two seasons. It's okay to be excited if they end up there today.
Bronson Arroyo has owned the Cards the last two times he's faced them. He's pitched at least 8 innings each time, allowing 4 hits and 1 run in both outings. Another outing like that today and the Reds could take the series, which would be the Reds' first series win against the Cardinals this year.
There is rain in the forecast, so hopefully they'll get this one in. Go Reds! They're my favorite team!
