Earlier today I thought about the best players who have played the majority of their career steroid era and which of those ballplayers i was 100% certain were steroid free.
uhhhhhhhhhhh, i hit a brick wall.
I almost went with Roberto Alomar but he had waaaaaaay too much personal baggage (spitting on umps, being sued by ex-girlfriend for exposing her to AIDS, etc) for me to be completely confident that he was above juicing. I also think that a great many of the pitchers in this era were on the junk also. There aren't too many top notch pitchers from that era that I don't suspect at all, unfairly or not.
So, in my calculation there are four guaranteed clean ballplayers that played the majority of their careers in the Roid Era. My apologies to any seriously worthy HOF candidates that I have omitted. But, this really ramps up the case for some former ballplayers who, so far, have not been elected to the HOF. Ron Santo, first and foremost. Tim Raines, second. Bert Blyleven. Dave Parker. Vada Pinson. Dick Allen. Alex Trammell. Barry Larkin. Lou Whitaker. Dale Murphy. And put Jim Kaat on my list also.
What ballplayers did i miss? Pedro? I'm not completely sold on him...same with the Big Unit. I definitely have suspicions of the Killer B's in Houston. Hell, just a couple years ago I was quite certain ManRam and the Volkswagen were clean as a whistle.
