Oscar Pool / Open Thread
It's that time of year again. Just like last year I created a pool at www.funofficepools.com (last year I shopped around and that clunky site was the best. It's entirely possible there's something better now. If we all had SBNation issued iPhones there's a pretty sweet app...)
Sign up and join pool name: Red Reporter 2010, password: aroldis. It will really make it easier for people to follow along if your pickset name is somewhat similar to your RR handle.
I put a weighted point system on the categories. Best Picture, Director, the acting and screenplay categories are all worth 3 points, everything else is 2 points, except the shorts, documentary and foreign films categories which are 1 point (I figured everyone has the least familiarity with those). If you think we should change these weightings speak up before the ceremonies start. Picks need to be in by 8pm tonight.
Like last year I will send a collection of pirated Academy screener DVDs of select nominated films to the winner.

I don't know movies.
That’s why I enlisted my friends from the dorm to help. GASP!

My picks are in
Last year’s Oscar’s thread was one of my all-time favorites. I don’t think I’ll participate this year though, because I’m going to a party, and they’d probably frown on my typing furiously on a laptop in the corner. On the other hand, they won’t be rec’ing my bons mots. Tough call.
Done and done

but i assume the dialogue from IB should’ve been enought to win the screenplay award.
my guess was there wasn’t a lot of talking in the hurt locker
There was a good amount of talking
But Hurt didn’t have the feel of a “writer’s movie.” Although I’d say it was a character study masquerading as an action movie.
Basterds I thought was more deserving.
