Thanks for posting this, Mads!
I may try to stop by the gallery sometime in April. I found the artist’s website, and I’d like to see his work in person to really decide if it’s my cup of tea or not. Hyper realism isn’t always my favorite, but he’s done some interesting things with the Glenn Braggs and Lefty O’Doul portraits on his site.
Regardless, I love baseball art, so yea!

I did it just for you Muffs
BTW Poodle and I were discussing which artist is more relevant today:
Ursula Klein or Joh Cage.
whats your take.

Uh-oh...
I’ve never heard of either. I was prepared to hang my head guiltily once more because I don’t know modern artists (which is true— I know the oldies and I know modern illustrators, but that’s my limits.) However, a quick googling tells me that Klein is a chemist and Cage is a musician. So now I’m…. confused.

Volquez, Bailey, Cueto, Chapman, and Leake. The future is so bright I have to wear sunglasses.

Thank you for that kind introduction Justin
The reason that you are confused is that wrote down the wrong Ursula…it should have been:
Ursula Meyer or John Cage.
Sorry for the misinformation. Where I got Klein in stead of Meyer is a holy Mystery.

Sorry, but my brain is failing you. I still don't know either.
I do know this Ursula…

Also Phoebe’s sister on Friends and Ursula K. LeGuin, author of “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas.” Oh, and St. Ursula.

SOMETHING LIKE THAT
What is really going on has to do with consciousness, awareness and the human condition.
4:33 is simultaneously ridiculous, hilarious and deadly serious. This ‘music’ was produced at a time when only visionaries caught a glimpse of the future of electronic consciousness.Cage was one such visionary.

bullshit
doing something provocative is NOT the same thing as doing something significant.

Yeah just ask Jim Day
So Sis D. what do you got against conceptual art?
It is the closest thing that I can find to politics without actually having to run for office.

also here's another interesting tidbit about 'art'

What an inspiring story.
A poetry contest + using said contest to renounce oppression? I love it! Even better: discovering this story on a baseball website. Oh, the unexpected places Red Reporter will take you…

speaking of that issue
The kind of cancerous rationale that produces this kind of barbarian act needs to be removed from this planet.
What is Gods good name is wrong with these people. I know it is mostly men but the predilection that breaking ’God’s law’ allows for this kind of ‘Justice’ is more than frightening. This makes American ultra-conservatives seem almost human.

what's worse than these people
are those who sell them the weapons that assures this kind of barbarism continues. sadly, many of those arms dealers come from the supposedly civilized U.S. of A.
And let us not forget that not so long ago (and in some places in the American South still)

DEAR MIKE:
BASEBALL ART OPENING / 5TH STREET GALLERY
> GREETINGS FROM THE CHRIS FELIX FINE ART STUDIO!
Baseball is in “swing” and the 5th Street Gallery in the heart of downtown Cincinnati has graciously chosen me to be featured as the guest artist for the month of April.**
FRIDAY, APRIL 2nd, 5:30-9:00 p.m. marks the official opening of the exhibit "Bringing It Home," featuring my baseball paintings and a few historical baseball drawings and prints by artist David Day. Many other local artists will also be there with their work on display.
THIS EXHIBIT WILL SHOWCASE 11 NEW PAINTINGS COMMISSIONED BY TOPPS CARD CO. to be part of their 2010 National Chicle baseball card set (release date: April 26), and a baseball card-style painting of Brandon Phillips. Also hot from the studio is a large canvas of Harry Wright from my 1869 Redstockings Series. More than 20 paintings overall will be in the exhibit, and a few new prints will be available for sale. Prints of collaborations with wood sculpting artist Benjamin Blackburn as well many other prints of my work will also be available.
Plan a night out with friends or loved ones on Friday, April 2nd, and start it with a glass of wine celebrating the beginning of spring and BASEBALL at the art opening “Bringing it Home” at the 5th Street Gallery.
Hope you can make it!
Chris
