Cactus League Game 16 & 17 Thread
The Reds have two games at the same time today as they are splitting up the squads. Justin Lehr makes his bid for the 5th starter spot against the Cubs in Goodyear and Johnny Cueto tries to get his spring into gear and get ready for the start of the season (in just 2 weeks!).
Lineups are after the jump. Neither game is televised today, but both games are available on Gameday Audio - 700WLW will also be covering the Reds v. Cubs. You can also follow them on Gameday: Cubs Game, A's Game.

So is our top slugging player
Paul Janish.

I hope the Cubs bring their A lineup to Goodyear and knock Lehr out of contention for the #5 spot

looks like you didn't get your wish
i was hoping that he would struggle too
Also, interesting Tweet from teh Fay
NL scout on Chapman: He throws harder than Strasburg and his slider is better.

my Dusty-meter is off the charts today.
CF at leadoff and SS batting second…IN TWO GAMES AT THE SAME TIME? Dusty probably couldn’t sleep last night, he was so excited.
Set the gearshift to the high gear of your soul.

well
He did put Janish 8th yesterday, so it’s not like he’s incapable of it.

so
Which game did Chazilla choose?

all I have been hearing
is that most of these games are starting to draw some fairly big crowds. The Giants guy was saying they had a sellout yesterday. So it may be the ticket of least resistance.

He said
he bought tickets for today’s game ahead of time, so I don’t think that’s an issue.
I’m guessing it’s the Cubs game, since that’s the home game for the Reds.

That's a fan.
It doesn't matter what you think, or what I think. It's what Dusty thinks that matters, and he's a knucklehead.

just curious
why does Brantley sound like he got in too late last night?
Screaming at the strippers will do that to your voice.

I also think he can cut back on the cornball
so far, I can’t determine if he actually knows any baseball or just is the Cincy version of Hawk Harrelson.

Janish doubles
padding his SLG some more.

but he's stranded
as Bruce grounds out and Gomes strikes out.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Cueto
has given up only two hits, but the A’s are up 1-0.
They scored their run on one hit. No, it wasn’t a homer. It was a single, a wild pitch, a fly out, and a groundout.

Reds up 3-1 in the Oakland game
C-Dick single, Janish sac bunt, Bruce double.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Cueto not too bad
A few too many walks, but like the strikeouts. Hope he is getting some endurance going out there because he didn’t pitch in Winter ball this year like last year.
There's no Gameday photo of Cozart?
Common. Not even a minor league pic?

holy cow
The Cubs game is actually going to extras?
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
i've never seen a spring trianing game go beyond 10
since it was low scoring, both teams probably look at it as an extra inning to see hitters and pitchers.

tough when the Reds are playing split-squad, though

Gameday now says
“Delayed – Other”

Still tied after 10.

this is defintiely not a “dream come true”. I know he was not fantastic objectvely speaking, but it was nice having him around (atcually though he seems to be doing pretty well this Spring Training)
great pic
another example of what we won’t be seeing anymore. I guess all the beuatiful people end up in California ;)
So, I don't get to kiss my sister??????

This is random, but I noticed that Jonny Gomes looked a little lighter this year
And teh Fay is reporting that Gomes lost 17 pounds!:
“Jonny Gomes came to camp at 221 pounds, 17 pounds lighter than he finished last year.”
I don’t have a side by side pic, but I didn’t realize it was that much of a weight differential. Obviously, it has not affected his power.
you don't need to be chunky to hit for power
Scrawny Paul Janish, still our top slugger. ;-)

Printing it out and enlarging it and pasting it on his bathroom mirror.
Potential doesn't win games.
No, I watched it for an hour or two.
It was maddening. No one could explain anything or answer anyone’s questions.
This is the best explanation I found. News doesn’t care about policy, just about politics and personality.

I know this about that ....
As a member of the print media and inclined to wade through the enormous amount of blather that comes out of D.C., there is this:
A propensity to attempt, at least, to add personality to the debate, which translates into seeking interview time with the same people every day. That would be the most strident (read that, cohesive) opinions on either side of the aisle.
Somewhere in the 45th paragraph, someone adds a nut-graf (explanation of why we are actually writing this) that explains the point of it all.
Toward the end, if you got that far, is the disclaimer that differences will be discussed in committee later on in the week.
Lucky for us, there is baseball.
