Cactus League Game 13 Thread: Indians at Reds

Next Game

Cleveland Indians
@ Cincinnati Reds

Fausto Carmona vs Bronson Arroyo

Clear. Game time temperature around 78.

Bronson Arroyo makes his 3rd start of the spring tonight against Cleveland. He has yet to give up a run in 5 innings. He has struck out 2 batters with no walks and only 2 hits allowed. And yet, he's been overshadowed every time out there. That's a good thing. Hopefully he keeps it going tonight.

He'll be followed by Enerio Del Rosario, Jared Burton, Daniel Ray Herrera, and Micah Owings.

Indians put Fausto Carmona on the mound. He's pitched 3 innings of shutout baseball with a hit and a strikeout.

Lineups are after the jump. Indians have the broadcast today on Gameday Audio, or you can follow along on Gameday.

Looks like Weathers to me, too, but who knows.

It also looks like they’re waiting in two lines for Hanigan to whisper something secret in their ears.

by the finest muffins on Mar 17, 2010 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions

It was

this game. I was there.

Weathers did play in that game, but I’m pretty sure Votto and BP were out of the game by the time he came in.

Harang didn’t do too well that day. 7 hits, 6 runs, 3 walks. Didn’t get out of the 4th inning.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

I bet it's Aaron Fultz

He’s about the same height as Hanigan and he’s a lefty, which is what is indicated by the picture.

It looks like weathers

it may not be.

however, there is not enough evidence in that picture to suggest it is a left handed player.

actually, if you look at the way phillips is holding his glove, it would indicate that the pitcher was right handed.

should I dig out my notes on this game

except you can see his glove up by his chest

and the pitcher would have the ball in his glove, so he wouldn’t be holding his glove like BP.

thanks

I didn’t go to spring training this year, partly because the Reds are now in Arizona, partly because I have some family commitments this year that are eating up my vacation time. Maybe next year.

I do plan to catch a Bats game or three when they come to New York.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

by BubbaFan on Mar 17, 2010 9:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Definitely Weathers.

I don’t think Dusty Baker or Ryan Hanigan come in anywhere near Harang’s 6-7. And I’d recognize David Weathers’ profile anywhere.

by Geki on Mar 17, 2010 11:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Definitely Aaron Fultz

Danny Richar and Jonny Gomes both came in to the game to start the bottom of the 7th inning, the same inning that Weathers came in. Phillips and Votto were no longer in the game.

Are the Indians sort of coyly trying to remove Chief Wahzoo off their image list? It’s still on the helmets but the caps and shirt fronts don’t have it now.

Sidebar

Jocketty answered some Chapman-related questions via Fay earlier today:

Could he make the team as a reliever? "That has not been discussed. Probably not."
Because qualifying arbitration by 2012 affects his contract, will that be a factor in the decision if he makes the team? "If he’s good enough to make the team, no. We look at that with all our players, but it doesn’t affect the decisions we make."
Seemed relevant to some discussions around these parts.

by the finest muffins on Mar 17, 2010 10:47 PM EDT reply actions

So there's the answer.

If for the next three weeks he continues to outpitch all other contenders* for the last spot in the rotation.. he’s going against the Cubs on the first Saturday afternoon of the season. (Unless he gets skipped in order to keep the front four on a five day cycle. In which case he’d pitch in Miami the following Wednesday.)

*It should be noted that (statistically anyway) Mike Leake and Travis Wood are not leaving Chapman a lot of room to falter.

if you mean those guys

who “accept the paypal” – they are everywhere. They are based in China, and must have dozens of people posting that spam. Just about every USA Today article ends up with a half-dozen copies in their comment section, and a lot of other newspapers, blogs, etc., are being hit, too.

Yeah.

It started a couple days ago. And I have to moderate at CJ now. And that’s not the kind of moderation I hoped to deal with

by jsl413 on Mar 18, 2010 12:21 AM EDT up reply actions

USA Today

deals with it by blocking their URLs. They have a profanity filter, and in addition to blocking naughty words, they also block the domain names the spammers are pushing. Of course, it’s a moving target. The spammer change domain names, or start putting blank spaces between letters.

Would anyone really buy anything from a site advertised that way? The English is so gawd-awful you can hardly understand what they’re saying.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

All we can do is ban all users from that IP.

So they just get a different IP and we’re repeating the process.

by jsl413 on Mar 18, 2010 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions

what a pain

I recently had to change the settings on my blog because I was getting so much spam. The annoying thing is that there’s no way spamming my blog would get anyone any customers. Blogger automatically adds the “no follow” tag, so link spam doesn’t work (and they didn’t seem to understand how to post links, anyway). They were commenting on posts so old few real humans would ever look at them (and it’s not like I have a high-traffic blog anyway). Blogger lets you moderate comments on all posts older than two weeks, and that’s what I’m doing now.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

by BubbaFan on Mar 18, 2010 12:32 AM EDT up reply actions

yes, that's an option, too

But I don’t want to do that. That would inconvenience my actual visitors. And the spammers never comment on recent posts. I think they are hoping I won’t notice if they comment only on old posts.

It’s pretty bizarre, some of the things they do to try and avoid being deleted. “please dont delete! I work very hard on my site!” (with a huge block of porn links) “thank u for this exellent site, how do i becom a mod hear?” (not by posting a question like that!)
