Red Reporter NCAA Tournament Knockout Challenge

This post is meant as a companion to Caleb's excellent Redreporter Bracket Challenge. If you haven't set up your brackets yet, go to his diary fanpost and check it out.

Kangaroo_knockout_b_w_funny_photography_boxing-592ecab29b369e7038a18e964f9b33f8_h_medium

Instead of doing a bracket, this pool will rely on the cutthroat KNOCKOUT method, first engineered by Thaddeus Hornspackle during the Schenectady Foot Ball Championships in 1933. You pick one team every day, and that team must win or else you do not advance. And you can not pick that team again for the rest of the tournament. So if you think Northern Iowa will face Sam Houston State in the final game, you should probably save those teams for later. Otherwise you could find yourself in the final four with no teams left to choose from, and you lose.

The last person standing wins. Lots of pride is at stake, but no money. That's what office pools are for! You must make a pick every day, before your team's game starts. I'll keep up with the contestants every day and who they've selected, and all the action will take place in this thread.

So if you want to play, announce your intentions here and submit a team name tomorrow. That's it. Let's have fun!

just prior to your game tipping off

i was trying to think if there’d be an advantage to waiting until the last slate of games, but i dont think there is. so just, before your team plays

Alway the optimist...I like your think kid...

by boobs on Mar 17, 2010 9:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Team A upsets Team B in an early game.

Later that day Team E is a heavy favorite to beat Team F and advance to the next round to play the Team A.

So if you wait to make your pick you might get to avoid picking Team E in order to save Team E for the next round when you know that they’ll again be heavy favorites.

, bitches!

by Fat Vegas Alan on Mar 17, 2010 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions

i guess i can see that

but if someone does too much gamesmanship like that, they could just as easily end up thinking their way out of contention. we’ll stick with before the game. if you want to try out your theory and pick late games, go for it, but you might end up excluding a lot of good early picks.

I hope to construct a music video montage of classy St. Louis Cardinal moments, perhaps setting it to Mariah Carey's "Hero."

Please take a moment to find the classiest incidents in recent Cardinal history, and link to an article covering the event, or video or pictures if you can find them. And if you just have a ridiculous photo of a recent Cardinal, please post a link here to the highest resolution image you can find.
