Who's our Opening Day Starter? Dusty not sure
If not Harang, then who? I just have a hard time thinking of Arroyo as an ace. Maybe its Cueto's time.

It has got to be Aaron
I still look at him as the staff leader. I’m guessing it is going to be between Harang and Arroyo.
Rotation out of the shoot will be:
Harang
Arroyo
Cueto
Bailey
Maloney
Volquez, Bailey, Cueto, Chapman, and Leake. The future is so bright I have to wear sunglasses.
I'd rather have this Wells:

Look! It's the Cincinnati Phillies!

god
remember when the Reds had a starting staff of:
Schoureck
Smiley
Wells
Portugal
Burba
That was a pretty nice big three, plus Portugal and Burba weren’t chopped liver. Imagine if they had a healthy Rijo, and could have entered the playoffs with Rijo, Schoureck, and Smiley. Oh what could have been…

I have a hard time thinking of Arroyo as an ace, too
But you could argue that he’s earned it. He had a good season last year.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Bronson has earned it.
Despite Harang’s tenure…the best pitcher over the entire season last year was Bronson.
So i say Arroyo,,,unless a certain soft tossing righty gets signed…

Arroyo had a good final two months
which Harang didn’t have the opportunity to have due to an appendectomy. Harang was roling in his last 5 starts, he threw 7 innings in each start. He hit a bump after the rain delay game, but he came back and was looking like the old Aaron Harang.
Arroyo was the best pitcher for the final two months, but over the course of the entire season he was a 1.8 WAR pitcher, Harang was a 2.5 WAR pitcher. Simply Arroyo was so terrible in the first half, that despite his out of the world final 2 months, he still lost a ton of games in the first half of the season. Plus Harang’s peripherals were much better than Arroyo’s, Harang still struck out more hitters than Arroyo and had 40 some less innings. Arroyo’s K/9 of 5.2 scares me a lot. He was insanely lucky, where as Harang was very unlucky. I’d rather go with quality than luck, it has gotta be Harang, there is no other good answer.

Lets not muck this decision up with a bunch of facts.

Arroyo's had two really good seasons
when Harang’s had two mediocre ones. I’m as big a fan of Harang as you’ll find, but it’s difficult to argue that Arroyo doesn’t earn it. He’s been a Face of the Franchise™ since he’s gotten here besides. I’d like for Harang to get opening day, but I won’t be too upset if Bronson does instead.

FIP's for each pitcher over the last two seasons:
Harang
2008 – 4.79
2009 – 4.14
Arroyo
2008 – 4.50
2009 – 4.78
it’s hard to say that “Arroyo’s had two really good seasons when Harang’s had two mediocre ones” when one of Arroyo’s “really good seasons” matches almost exactly one of Harang’s “mediocre” ones according to FIP. and Harang has the far-and-away best season among the four. i think some of us are forgetting just how monumentally bad Arroyo was for the first 4 months of last season. i’m not saying Arroyo doesnt deserve the opening day start, but rather that the idea that Arroyo has been better than Harang over the past two seasons is bordering on nuts. such is the power of luck i suppose.

It's a largely ceremonial honor
I think arguing for OD Starter honors with FIP is like arguing Best Burger with condiments. Nobody gives a shit who has olives and who has grape, you’re just trying to give a sop to the fans.

Arroyo, based on the past few years performance

I have a hunch it'll still be Harang.
But I have no problem with that not being a foregone conclusion in February.

He doesn’t want to get up that early.

That first picture is Bronson?
That’s pretty cool, actually.
Man, you can take the Bro out of Florida, but you can’t take the Florida out of the Bro.
