WATN... First Edition

Earlier today I received a tweet about Mo Sanford hosting a pitching clinic next weekend here in Cincy. I must admit I am quite surprised that Mo is still active in the local scene. That got me to thinking what has become of some former Reds ballplayers....Where Are They Now?

FRANK PASTORE --- pitched for the Reds from 1979 - 1985 compiling a 45-57 record with a 4.30 ERA. i knew that after baseball Frank went into ministry in the Southwest and that he ate some ginormous steak at a Texas steakhouse in record time (thanks to the Travel Channel, believe it or not). It turns out he hosts The Frank Pastore Show on a radio station in LA and its the largest Christian talk show in the nation. He also penned a book released this year (just like Slyde!) entitled "Shattered: Struck Down But Not Destroyed". It is readily available on amazon.com for ten bucks. http://www.amazon.com/Shattered-Struck-Down-But-Destroyed/dp/1589976118/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1289154458&sr=8-1

NICK ESASKY --- played for the Reds from 1983-88, Boston 1989, Atlanta 1990 before being forced to retire due to complications from Vertigo after his breakout season with BOS, where he put up a 133 OPS+. He relocated to ATL (suck it, jch) and apparently still lives there today. The most recent news I could find on him was a heart touching story here

DAVE COLLINS --- One of my favorite ballplayers growing up and probably the only ballplayer I can name who hails from South Dakota (Rapid City). Dave was drafted by the Angels and played for them and the Mariners(he was their first batter in their first game) before being traded to Cincy in 1979. After two very good seasons he signed a free agent contract with NYY. He wound up playing 16 seasons, including a 2nd tour with the Reds in 1987-88. After his playing career he wound up alternating between being a high school baseball coach and a MLB first base coach. He coached first for STL, then the Reds, then the Rockies and for the Marlins (whom he resigned from last June).
