Reds minor league transactions
From Baseball America
Cincinnati Reds
Signed: RHP Jerry Gil (re-signed), RHP Justin Lehr (re-signed), RHP Ruben Medina (re-signed), 3B Eric Campbell (Fargo-Moorhead (Northern)), 3B Mike Costanzo (re-signed)
Eric Campbell helped lead Fargo-Moorhead to a second straight Northern League title and now he's back in affiliated ball. The 25-year-old hit .311 with 22 homers in 302 at-bats for Fargo after getting cut by the Phillies in spring training. A Braves second-round pick in ’04, Campbell bashed 18 home runs in the Rookie-level Appalachian League in ’05, winning MVP honors, and then 22 more for low Class A Rome in ’06. He wore out his welcome with the Braves, however, and when he stopped hitting (just .241/.308/.331 for Double-A Mississippi in ’09), Atlanta released him.

so
I was looking through BA’s minor league transaction archives to see if the Reds re-signed Daryl Thompson. (They did. He was eligible to be a free agent, but apparently decided to stay with the Reds.)
While looking, I found out what happened to Luis Terrero. Sort of. I wondered why the Reds didn’t call him up when most of their outfield was on the DL (or should have been). He seemed ideal. His .938 OPS in Louisville was respectable. He probably wasn’t going to hit that in the big leagues, but it’s not like the Reds had a lot of options at that point. At 30, he wasn’t a prospect any more, so it would be no loss to DFA him to get him off the roster when the time came. But they didn’t call him up.
For good reason, apparently. He was on the suspended list. Which means he was bad. The only reason players go on the suspended list is if they are suspended by their team or by the league. Otherwise, they go on the disabled list, the temporarily inactive list, or the restricted list.
Dunno what he did (DWI? Failed drug test?), but I guess there was a reason why he wasn’t called up.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Very strange
It looks like he was re-activated in September even though he was playing in a game August 15
And he’s now playing in the Dominican Winter League with the Lions
Didn’t come across anything about what the suspension might’ve been about
Bart: "Dad, what's a Muppet?"
Homer: "Well, it's not quite a mop, not quite a puppet, but man... (laughs, then pauses) So, to answer you question, I don't know."
I wonder if Costanzo has a future other than an organizational player
He had a good start in the Phillies’ system, hitting for decent power with walks at AA, before being traded with Bourn in the Brad Lidge deal. He got flipped to Baltimore and didn’t do well in their system but hit some in Carolina last year. He could be a viable caddy for Rolen in 2012, if he shows something in Louisville this year.
Jerry Gil = Geronimo Gil, right?
Man, he’s been in the system forever. All in the dream of being the next Marcus McBeth

Different guy.
Jerry’s seven years younger. Former OF/IF who turned to pitching. I believe he was Wayne Krivsky’s first trade acquisition, picked up for Abe Woody, who later rejoined the Reds organization.

TT ( once again I'm doing your work...) other minor league news.
Gwen (The Hulkette) Peterson was given her release by the Christiansburg Penguins cheer Squad ( frontier league affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds). Gwen was a former #1 round pick in 2008 was signed to their practice team right out of High School. Penguins cheer-team co-ordinater Dixie Dickens was quoted as saying" Gwen is a great team member and has a lot of ability but she needs to work on her lifts".

Dr. Turtle rules. But he has complete the assessment of the cheerleader draft for NLB teams...
He promised (At least I think he did) and just appears to have not had the time so I’ve been pinch hitting hfor him where notable news comes up.
