Our favorite Big Red Machine shortstop is on the ballot this winter for election to Cooperstown. I'm not sure what we can do, if anything, to help his cause but I think we should do something. RedReporters everywhere can pitch in somehow but I am not sure how. Any ideas? Maybe an letter writing/email campaign? Here are a couple of articles about this seasons vote. The first is from ESPN and the second is from the Hall of Fame. Personally I think Davey should be in. He was the best player at his position for over a decade and deserves to be the next member of the Big Red Machine inducted. And wouldn't it be sweet to see him and Larkin go in together? We should all be in Cooperstown the weekend of July 22-25 to hopefully see two great Reds go in!! The results of the vote will be announced on December 6th.

He's had to wait too long already...

but it sure would be cool if the two men who roamed SS at Riverfront/GABp for 30+ years were to go in together.

I’m not confident it will happen this year, though.

yeah me either

but how awesome would it be. With the resurgence of the Reds this year how great of an off season would it be to have them both go in!!

It's probably harder to sway a VC vote vesus BBWAA

The writers are more accessible and some are open-minded. The former players and execs probably have their mind made up, or will only listen to those in their circles. I mentioned this in another thread, but Ozzie Smith could be an influential voter and advocate here.

The 16-member electorate charged with the review of the Expansion Era ballot features: Hall of Fame members Johnny Bench, Whitey Herzog, Eddie Murray, Jim Palmer, Tony Perez, Frank Robinson, Ryne Sandberg and Ozzie Smith; major league executives Bill Giles (Phillies), David Glass (Royals), Andy MacPhail (Orioles) and Jerry Reinsdorf (White Sox); and veteran media members Bob Elliott (Toronto Sun), Tim Kurkjian (ESPN), Ross Newhan (retired, Los Angeles Times) and Tom Verducci (Sports Illustrated).

Hopefully there is enough Reds influence to get it done here.

I can't imagine that players like Ozzie Smith and Ryne Sandberg who played aginst Davey wouldn't sing his praises all the way to Cooperstown

Then there’s Frank Robinson as well.
Davey better get in or Ol’ Mads is heading to Cooperstown…are you with me Caleb?

If Davey can't get in, what makes you think they'll let you in??
