This Day in Reds History - October 10
On this date in 1972 the Reds beat the Pirates 7-1.
Ross Grimsley pitched a complete game two hitter, walking none, as the Reds were able to stave off elimination to tie the best of five series at two games apiece. Grimsley, Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, and Denis Menke each had two hits to lead the offense. Roberto Clemente had both hits, including a HR, for the Pirates and was the only Pirate besides Dock Ellis to reach base. Ellis reached on an error by Darrel Chaney in the third inning.

Boy how in the world could any team both Menke and Chaney in the line up win 7 - 1 against that Pirate line up?
