Around SBN: Watch Out For Cowboys UDFA Tim Benford

"When some of us (OK, me mostly) advocated dealing, say, Votto and Homer Bailey for Oakland pitcher Joe Blanton, the Statboys came out flame-throwing numbers:"

How you like me now, Daugherty? Reds weren't trying to jump a hurdle at that time. They were trying to get permission to run the race.

Anyone with a library card can pick up one of James’ mind-numbing baseball “abstracts,” in which the author makes the game sound like a first cousin to biomechanical engineering.

Anyone who’s read Bill James would never say this. James is a terrific writer. The new abstract discusses anything interesting about baseball – equipment changes, umpiring, ballparks, differences between the decades, etc. Most of it is done in a non-quantitative way. It’s hardly an engineering text.

Also, I strongly doubt he knows what biomechanical engineering sounds like.

This team wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for all the kipper-snacks.

You just described my morning dump.

Eighty-five percent of the f*ckin' world is working. The other fifteen percent come out here. A f*ckin' playground for the cocks*ckers.
