I don't have much to say. If this is the last game of the season, I'm going to enjoy it. If not, I'm going to enjoy it even more. I've been proud of these guys this season. I want them to show everybody in the country that they aren't the team we've seen the last two games. They're much better than that!

Keep the season alive! Go Reds!

and here's the lineup

Stubbs 8
Phillips 4
Votto 3
Rolen 5
Gomes 7
Hernandez 2
Bruce 9
Janish 6
Cueto 1

Via the Fay. He also says no decision has been made on DLing Cabrera, or on who will start Game 4.

just heard on 700 that Cabrera will start

Haven’t heard or seen that elsewhere, though. Perhaps I heard that wrong.

Any who… go Reds! They’re my favorite!

by Heeringa on Oct 10, 2010 6:07 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Fay posted an update
The Reds will wait until as close to game time as possible to make a call on Orlando Cabrera. Cabrera aggravated his strained left oblique Friday. Chris Valaika could replace Cabrera on the roster.

I imagine hes not a whole lot better, Baker said. Weve got a little bit of time.

Cabrera will have to be seen by a MLB doctor to confirm hes hurt before the Reds can make a roster move.

Paul Janish was in the starting lineup at shortstop. It helps that Janish is 3-for-7 against Philly starter Cole Hamels.

Hes been an excellent fill-in, Baker said. Hes had better good success against Hamels. Maybe things will work out the way theyre supposed to.

Janish is better than Cabrera defensively at this point in his career.

Janny is good at what he does, Baker said. He can play some shortstop. Like I said in spring training: You always want a true backup shortstop.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

by BubbaFan on Oct 10, 2010 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions

And another update

Cabrera is starting after all.

He’ll bat in Janish’s spot, 8th.

Ugh. I don’t like this. I’d rather have Janish.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

by BubbaFan on Oct 10, 2010 6:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

But at least Cabrera’s hitting 8th. I really like the top third of our lineup.

by ThePensive on Oct 10, 2010 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions

it's not his hitting

so much as his defense. Or lack thereof. It’s bad even when he’s healthy. Now he’s hoping he doesn’t have to make another double play throw.

Janish kills lefties, so I’d be fine with him starting against Ole King Cole.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

by BubbaFan on Oct 10, 2010 6:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Janish doesn't kill flies much less MLB pitching

his offensive accomplishments are extremely overrated here on RR.

I'll agree with that...

but he’s at least equal to Cabrera at the plate at this point, and better in the field.

he has had a good season offensively, for him

and he is a similar offensive player to cabrera and a much better defensive player.

Try to argue that Ocab brings more to the team.

not to overstate this

just keep an eye on what happens if Janish gets 400+ ABs next season. or any season.

but he has a decent season, for him, with the stick this year. in a small sample size, of course.

but ocab hasn't really been burning it up at the plate

i think Janish can match Ocab’s .263/.303/.354 slash line. His OBP is frustratingly low considering his .263 average.

At this point, I would take Rosales over Cabrera.

(Except Rosales isn’t available, and ended the season on the DL.)
