LDS Game 3 Thread: Phillies at Reds

I don't have much to say. If this is the last game of the season, I'm going to enjoy it. If not, I'm going to enjoy it even more. I've been proud of these guys this season. I want them to show everybody in the country that they aren't the team we've seen the last two games. They're much better than that!
Keep the season alive! Go Reds!

and here's the lineup
Stubbs 8
Phillips 4
Votto 3
Rolen 5
Gomes 7
Hernandez 2
Bruce 9
Janish 6
Cueto 1
Via the Fay. He also says no decision has been made on DLing Cabrera, or on who will start Game 4.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
just heard on 700 that Cabrera will start
Haven’t heard or seen that elsewhere, though. Perhaps I heard that wrong.
Any who… go Reds! They’re my favorite!

Fay posted an update
The Reds will wait until as close to game time as possible to make a call on Orlando Cabrera. Cabrera aggravated his strained left oblique Friday. Chris Valaika could replace Cabrera on the roster.
I imagine hes not a whole lot better, Baker said. Weve got a little bit of time.
Cabrera will have to be seen by a MLB doctor to confirm hes hurt before the Reds can make a roster move.
Paul Janish was in the starting lineup at shortstop. It helps that Janish is 3-for-7 against Philly starter Cole Hamels.
Hes been an excellent fill-in, Baker said. Hes had better good success against Hamels. Maybe things will work out the way theyre supposed to.
Janish is better than Cabrera defensively at this point in his career.
Janny is good at what he does, Baker said. He can play some shortstop. Like I said in spring training: You always want a true backup shortstop.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
And another update
Cabrera is starting after all.
He’ll bat in Janish’s spot, 8th.
Ugh. I don’t like this. I’d rather have Janish.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
it's not his hitting
so much as his defense. Or lack thereof. It’s bad even when he’s healthy. Now he’s hoping he doesn’t have to make another double play throw.
Janish kills lefties, so I’d be fine with him starting against Ole King Cole.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Janish doesn't kill flies much less MLB pitching
his offensive accomplishments are extremely overrated here on RR.
"Yahan Sentona's strikeouts are way down this year" Jake Liscow
I'll agree with that...
but he’s at least equal to Cabrera at the plate at this point, and better in the field.
What does a mama bear on the pill have in common with the World Series? No cubs.
he has had a good season offensively, for him
and he is a similar offensive player to cabrera and a much better defensive player.
Try to argue that Ocab brings more to the team.

not to overstate this
just keep an eye on what happens if Janish gets 400+ ABs next season. or any season.
but he has a decent season, for him, with the stick this year. in a small sample size, of course.
"Yahan Sentona's strikeouts are way down this year" Jake Liscow
but ocab hasn't really been burning it up at the plate
i think Janish can match Ocab’s .263/.303/.354 slash line. His OBP is frustratingly low considering his .263 average.

and...
he’s injured.
At this point, I would take Rosales over Cabrera.
(Except Rosales isn’t available, and ended the season on the DL.)
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
bad karma
first rosales, then edmonds, then cabrera go out with big injuries.
next season im going to adopt wainwright and carpenter!
"Yahan Sentona's strikeouts are way down this year" Jake Liscow
can you adopt Utley and Victorino right now?
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
i do like Victorino and Polanco
mark it down!
"Yahan Sentona's strikeouts are way down this year" Jake Liscow
.308 AVG / .838 OPS
He’s always hit lefties well, even in the minors.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Pauli has a career .670 OPS vs LH starting pitching
adam rosales, whom everyone here hateth, has a career .742 OPs vs LH starting pitching
"Yahan Sentona's strikeouts are way down this year" Jake Liscow
where'd you get that?
ESPN says Janish has a .718 career OPS against lefties.
As for Rosales…I think it’s his defense people hate, not his stick.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
jch hates his face!
i didnt read the small print on baseball-reference.
those stats are for an entire game when a LH starts and janish plays. egad.

Polanco, 3B
Utley, 2B
Howard, 1B

Rollins, SS

Hamels, P
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
this is a good lineup
i hate to admit…
"Yahan Sentona's strikeouts are way down this year" Jake Liscow
Nah
Not that that would be any worse than Cabrera batting second. Janish has a better OBP and OPS. Plus, he can bunt.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
i wonder how many of Janish's minor league managers batted him anywhere other than 8th?
"Yahan Sentona's strikeouts are way down this year" Jake Liscow
quite a few, I would guess
Not least because some minor league games use the DH. ;-)
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I'll take janish over OC now, better glove, take his bat and speed too.
Now gomes could sit and Heisey start in R.
Anyone who knows some good spells or rituals, get going with em. We need anything we can get.
If ya can’t beat em hex um.
Hope this team can start like they did in game two
but with a good finish too

I think the moment the season is over, this team will be announcing a lot of players are healing from injuries. Rolen and SloCab are there and I bet that there are others that we don’t know about.
If you're not having fun, stop participating.
Rolen doesn't have a capable backup and is actually good when healthy
