Game 156 Thread: Reds @ Astros
|
|
|
The Reds are on fire right now, having won six straight games and averaging nine runs a game over that span. I have no Earthly idea how to explain the sudden offensive outburst so I'm not even going to try.
Johnny Cueto takes the mound for the Reds this afternoon, looking to get over .500 on the season. Since being blown up by the Nationals on 8/15 he's only given up seven runs over his last 26.1 innings with 19K and 9 BB. He seems to have figured out the Astros this year after getting knocked around by them in his rookie year.
The Astros counter with Wandy Rodriguez, who despite a 2.97 ERA is hovering around a .500 record. If memory serves me (it probably doesn't) he's been pretty hard on the Reds in his career. But he hasn't faced the current murderer's row that Dusty's been sending out there. I say he doesn't stand a chance!
Lastly if you want to chat about the Bengals, check out the fine folks at Cincy Jungle, I hear good things about them.

It's a good thing the Bengals game is late.
I tried to follow two threads last week, and I almost killed myself.
Go Reds!

i prefer the cbs pregame
but the actual cbs announcers are brutal
phil simms is possibly the worst in sports
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
They have A, B, C and maybe even D teams of announcers. I don’t hear Simms much. I wonder if he usually does East coast or something like that. There aren’t many announcers that really bother me that much. I can actually listen to Steve Phillips and Joe Morgan.
That’s not to say there aren’t some piss poor ones though.
ah
That’s the late game here. I’d almost join Cincy Jungle and chatter along, but then it would sit in my menu forever and I wouldn’t post there again after the season. C’mon SBN – more choices on those menus. I suppose what’s the difference though.
i watch bengals games and they never get the a team announcers
so i’m well aware of how much the b,c, and d teams suck.
it’s just an indictment on the rest of the teams that the lead announcers are so terrible
Made from 100% Recycled Awesome,
is his father a former NBA guy?
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
I'm with you.
I can’t stand pregame shit, even the five minutes before the game.
I try not to turn the TV on until the game is starting.
Lineup
Bubba usually posts it, but I wanted to see if anyone knows the status of Rolen. He’s sitting out another game.

vs. LH Wandy Rodriguez (13-11, 2.97)
McFlurry in RF? Really?
Especially with Bruce blistering the ball right now?
Sig lines are for suckas.
I can't understand it either
I guess it’s because Rodriguez is considered a “tough lefty”. He is, but Bruce seems to be seeing the ball well right now. It’s worth a shot and I think he earned it over the past few days.
I would be more upset
but McD is hitting pretty well right now too.
"If it wasn't this, it'd be something else."
but Bruce is still just a young'un
if you want him to ever hit lefties, he has to practice. it makes too much sense for Dusty to figure it out.
by Charlie Scrabbles on Sep 27, 2009 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions
I get the feeling that Dusty doesn't like to take game time for people to practice
I can understand that on some level. I also understand, however, that getting Bruce AB’s vs. lefties is important to developing him into a mature hitter.
"If it wasn't this, it'd be something else."
And now is the time to use games for practice.
But yeah, he won’t get it.
Let me write out a formal proof for you.
I'd also prefer to see Francisco starting
The amount of charity starts Dusty gives seems to be at least equal to the amount of starts that would be useful in assessing the building blocks of the team. I guess the Beatles were right.

Thanks for the Cincy Jungle shout out jch
I see Dusty is remaining loyal to bad players and old people today.. the bottom 4 in our lineup aren’t going to do jack.
Just to spite you
McD: 1-2, 2 BB, 3 R
RH: 2-4, HR, 3 RBI
Rosie: 3-4. 2B, 3B, R, RBI
Cueto: 0-2 (I may be dumb, but I’m not stupid.)

That's what I'm trying to imply, in a roundabout way
but I made a crucial typo. He’s not going to hit .340 of course and since he never walks his OBP is likely to sit around .310 as you say. It’s kind of impressive that there’s been seemingly no attempt to teach him even a trace amount of patience.

I haven’t been this disgruntled about a loss since they mattered back in July. I guess it’s because it’s a confirmed losing season, but it was so close. What happend up there? 3-2? After two 10 run games??
Apparently, if Votto doesn’t have a huge game, we lose. That is, obviously, an unsustainable situation.
Now I get a whole off day to stew about it then we have to face the Cardinals.
