The emptier half of the Doubleheader
These are just a few shots of how empty the ballpark was on Monday afternoon. It was a beautiful, almost perfect day. The past couple games have had poor attendance, but I think this tops them all. It's a shame, because the Reds are playing some better. In any case, on a beautiful afternoon, it's pretty nice to sit outside and enjoy a nice view of the river.
You could hear what the infielders were shouting and, according to McDonald, the fielders could hear what the few in the stands were yelling. On almost every pop-up, fans in the stands tried to confuse Pirates fielders by adding "I got it!" That doesn't usually have a great chance of working, but on this day it might have.
By the end of the game, I think there were about 35 people in the RF seats. I have a question for anyone who often seats in the LF bleachers, how did that bullet hole like break happen? (you can see it in front of the guye in the front row I'm assuming someone hit something there).
Definitely not Bubba quality pics, as evidenced by this blurry shot of Masset warming in the bullpen:
I walked by the bullpens because it was so quiet, you could hear the ball smacking into the catcher's mitt in both teams' bullpens from all the way in the LF bleachers. I'd never had that happen before.
Not great shots, but I think it gives you a bit of an idea of how empty that place was. They weren't even selling nachos or pretzels! Much to my dismay.

Guilty!
If the RF bleachers get down to 12 fans, we can call it “The Jury Box,” ala the mini-bleachers in old Braves field in Boston.
Where have you gone, Johnny Vander Meer?
No nachos or pretzels?
Is that even legal?
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I thought not
A couple of Pirates fans (a father and son) were looking for pretzels too. We all ended up with that pretzilla thing with cinnamon sugar on it from La Rosas. It was the best we could do. It was actually pretty good, but not what I wanted in the first place.
I miss GAPB
haven’t been ther in a couple of years now…
