Reds Don't Win Next Year IF. . .

Today, for some reason, I woke up in a bad mood and proceeded to look at the standings. I don't know why, but I instantly was filled with rage. DO WE STILL HAVE THE OWNER WHO SAID 'WE'RE NOT GOING TO LOSE ANY MORE!" Yeah, I thought so, well winning cant be dependent on a lineup built the way it was. AGAIN, Reds don't win next year if players like Darnell McDonald, Paul Janish, Adam Rosales, Laynce Nix, Carlos Fisher, etc. are on the opening roster. OPEN YOUR EYES REDS FANS this team sucks, and I know because of the late season surge it will give the 'dignitaries' excuse to DO NOTHING IN THE OFFSEASON, which is what they will do. Reds will start out and flirt with .500 next year and then SUCK again and piss me off, making me look forward to football, which never is good either. I'm fed up and I hope you are too.

I personally am annoyed that ALIWBIC would include Laynce Nix in the same sentence with Rosy...

On the other hand what would occur if the if the Pittsburgh Pirates go out of business. Would MLB divide up the rosters of all of their rookie,A, AA, HighAA, Low AAA and HighAAA (The actual Pirate team) equally among the the rest of the teams?(BTW when the heck is talk like a Pirate day…again…)

As for the original post...

Everyone realizes they are going to continue to cut payroll between now and Opening Day 2010, right?

The Solution to the Problem

If you’re fed up, don’t watch.

If enough people don’t watch, ticket sales and TV revenue decline.

If ticket sales and TV revenue decline, management will be unable to meet payroll and other expenses associated with running a MLB franchise.

If that happens, management can either a) fold the team for not meeting payroll, or b) commit to winning by investing in the minor league system, scouts, do it the right way – not the Reds way.

So the Reds suck right now. You’re right about that. But if you don’t like what you see, don’t rant and spew venom…just go away. There’s always a quilting bee. And this world is big enough to have a hobby for everyone – even fans of baseball teams that don’t want to compete anymore.

I LOVED the Reds in my youth. The BRM was the focal point of my young life, and some of my happiest memories involve the Reds. But if the owners of the team are not interested in committing to winning, they will not get my cash, my support, or – more importantly – my children as the next generation of fans. I’ll vote with my feet, and find something else to invest my time in 162 days over the course of the spring and summer months.

If Reds management is listening, I’ll say this: "Fire Dusty Baker. NOW. Hire baseball people to run your minor league system. Double the scouts, and commit to winning. Or suffer the consequences.

I don’t expect a championship every season. I DO, however, expect a commitment to winning, year in and year out. I will NOT sit through 5 90 loss seasons to get ONE shot at a winner. If that’s the only way the small market Reds can “compete” in this day and age…then Reds management can fold, or find a way to push through a salary cap and improved revenue sharing and make the league more competitive, top to bottom. Welcome to the 21st Century professional sports landscape, Reds Management – we won’t just sit back and passively consume sub-quality product.

A wonderfully liberal sentiment..truly

But Bob operates in a world where the corporate mindset dictates that if enough people don’t support the product that he believes is headed in the right directin (and that includes Dusty Baker bigtime) then he’ll cut his losses and sell the team for a nice profit and let it move to Indianapolis.

It is not that Bob’s not interested in winning, he is. I believe that he, as a highly successful business guy, doesn’t really want to hear what we ‘peopns’ have to say. We are not Dusty baker’s peers, or Walt Jocketty’s peer..we are there to nejoy the team and tp pay our money.

BTW – Keaton…I don’t recognize your name are you a new guy? If so welcome and god luck..if not…good luck anyway.

Yeah, well....

….I don’t mean to convey an overly positive disposition, but I predicted us to only win 72 games this year, so we’re actually ahead, considering the product. It’s not a good roster to begin with. If this team had a manager and coaches who appreciated player development, I think things will quickly reverse itself. The pitching didn’t do as badly as I anticipated (at least the relievers), and we have some talented young players on offense, but injuries and the sad sight of having one of the dumbest managers in history field manage us into loss after loss did us in.

come on

you don’t think having a healthy and productive bruce, harang, Stubbs, and Rolen for a full year won’t help to add 4 or 5 wins on top of this years team, which also employed Taveras and Gonzo, who i can’t believe will be back next season.

I know it must be disheartebibg at times to those RRers who would like this site to be a bit more of a hi-tech MLb stat club.

But frankly I am just too fucking crisp to follow that shit. So its good that from time to time you guys are nice enough to humor old Mads…I know it risky but good for you mod guys…especially since football season is here for a while.
