Starting Lineup Daynce Mix
You all were a chatty bunch last night. It's a pretty exciting thing to be able to get a win over Tim "The Enchanter" Lincecum, and just as exciting to score seven runs off of the Giants bullpen, one of the best in the bigs. In honor of hero of the game Laynce Nix, I decided to make a little Daynce Mix and say what songs remind me of which Reds. Feel free to add your own in the comments, or, more likely, talk about whatever the hell else.
Willy Taveras - "I Suck" by Mark Ronson, feat. Rivers Cuomo
Pretty self-explanatory.
Alex Gonzalez - "There's Only One Ricky Hatton" by drunk English boxing fans
To commemorate Dusty Baker's belief that there's only one Alex Gonzalez, even though he's coached two of them.
Joey Votto - "Nobody Does It Better" by Radiohead
Baby, you're the best. But slightly more rocking than Carly Simon. I also thought about "Simply Irresistible," for the Irresistable Force, or just a badass rendition of "O Canada."
Brandon Phillips - "I Think They Like Me" by Dem Franchize Boyz
The Franchise, trying to keep it real and still be the face of the team in Cincinnati.
Scott Rolen - "Ridin' Dirty" by Chamillionaire
We see Rolen, we hatin'. But dude's ballin' in the hot corner.
Wladimir Balentien - "We Have All the Time in the World" by My Bloody Valentine
Because even though this season may be lost, My Wladdy Balentien reminds us that this season is not the be all, end all.
Jonny Gomes - "Irish Drinking Song" by Less Than Jake
I don't know about you, but when I hear "Then we'll drink and drink and drink and drink and drink and drink and fight!," I think Jonny Gomes. The other choice was "Put On Your White Sombrero."
Ryan Hanigan - "It's Nice to Know You Work Alone" by Silversun Pickups
One of the best hitters on the Reds, in acknowledgement of the fact that despite his high OBP, he's always stuck in the 8th spot with no protection from the pitcher.
Laynce Nix - "Knowledge" by Sometimes Y
I've never heard this song before, but it fits strictly for the band name. Apparently they came from Milwaukee too!
Anybody got some other suggestions?

I'll think of better responses to this later on,
but I just wanted to add that my favorite football chant ever is “There’s only two Andy Gorams” I’ll let wikipedia explain why:
After it was reported in the press that Goram had a mild form of schizophrenia, fans responded with a chorus of “Two Andy Gorams, there’s only two Andy Gorams”.This chant quickly gained popularity, and became the title of a book documenting humorous football chants.

I once defended the managerial styles of Jerry Narron after a Reds loss in a bar after a long night of drinking. I wish I could say that I don't remember doing that.

And it would be awesome if Wlad came to the plate to the first track from Loveless.

two options
1) have all at bat music be selected online at Reds.com. switch it up ever month. EXCEPT for Time Lincecum, who must always and forever more get “Dance Hall Days”.
2) If #1 isnt doable just play “Sister Christian” for everyone.

Sorry ... here's the link
Select the second one from the bottom
And for those that can’t listen at work — here’s a pictorial with lyrics (if this is too be feel free to delete it, I was just really bored):
It may have been Camelot for Jack and Jacqueline

But on the Che Guevara highway filling up with gasoline
Fidel Castro’s brother spies a rich lady who’s crying

Over luxury’s disappointment
So he walks over and he’s trying
To sympathise with her but he thinks that he should warn her
That the third world is just around the corner

In the Soviet Union a scientist is blinded
By the resumption of nuclear testing and he is reminded

That Dr. Robert Oppenheimer’s optimism fell
At the first hurdle
In the cheese pavilion the only noise I hear
Is the sound of someone stacking chairs
And mopping up spilt beer
![]()
And someone asking questions and basking in the light
Of the fifteen fame filled minutes of the fanzine writer

Mixing pop and politics he asks me what the use is
I offer him embarrassment and my usual excuses

While looking down the corridor
Out to where the van is waiting
Im looking for the great leap forwards

Jumble sales are organized and pamphlets have been posted
Even after closing time there’s still parties to be hosted

You can be active with the activists
Or sleep in with the sleepers
While youre waiting for the great leap forwards

One leap forward, two leaps back

Will politics get me the sack?
Waiting for the great leap forwards

Here comes the future and you can’t run from it

If youve got a blacklist I want to be on it

Waiting for the great leap forwards

Its a mighty long way down rock n roll
From top of the pops to drawing the dole
You’re waiting for the great leap forward

If no one seems to understand
Start your own revolution and cut out the middleman

Waiting for the great leap forward

In a perfect world we’d all sing in tune
But this is reality so give me some room

Waiting for the great leap forward

So join the struggle while you may
The revolution is just a t-shirt away

Waiting for the great leap forwards (X4)

Beam me up Scotty!

Waiting for the great leap forward (fades out)

Rec'd for effort, rec'd for a great song
but, uh, the lyrics don’t match the ones you posted…

Are you talking about
If no one seems to understand
If that’s the case, then, yes, I realized after it was too later.
Or, are you refering to the newer version of the song?
The link I posted has four versions of the song. The second from the bottom is the original (which is what I’m using here). The others are covers or Bragg’s newer version. I’m not a big fan of the new one with the Hugo Chavez and Donald Rumsfeld lines.

Whoops, check that. Ther are no covers. And the Rumsfeld one isn't there ...
Any of the bottom four versions are the lyrics that I use. I forgot that Bragg changes the lyrics to fit the times every once in a while.
Here’s the Rumsfeld version.
