Former Reds Josh Hamilton evidently has been a very bad boy

those pictures made me really sad
i hope that those were taken before 2005, and somebody is just claiming that they are recent. I really want to believe in Hamilton.

Based on the words he's using today
I’m guessing they are recent photos. (BigLeagueStew twitter page has a bunch of his quotes)

According to the description attached to the photos
they’re from January of 2009.
Let me write out a formal proof for you.
Josh is a big boy.
If he wants to take body shots off of hot young co-eds, then by all means, let him. Clearly he has a lot of baggage, but I don’t think going out and getting drunk is necessarily going to result in the recovering addict becoming the addict again. I’m sure he still has a good support system, and honestly, it might be for the best if he’s allowed to let the real Josh out of his cage every so often, as long as it’s for short periods of time. As far as I’m concerned, this is a non-story. He drank, he probably cheated on his wife, but clearly it didn’t lead him down the path to being a crackhead. I’m sure this wasn’t the only time something like this happened, and I’d bet that Josh Hamilton has done more than just drink since October 2005. Such is the life of a major league baseball player, but as long as his use of illicit substances remains recreational and not habitual, I’m not gonna be too worried about it. His bible thumping always seemed kind of contrived anyways.
totally disagree
He’s not a big boy. He has a full-time baby-sitter, fer crissakes.
He can’t drink. And he knows that. He claims that this incident was the first time since 2005. (Dunno if I believe that, but clearly, he knows he shouldn’t drink.)
The problem with addicts is that they can’t consume alcohol and narcotics recreationally. If they could, they wouldn’t be addicts.
He asked the bartender where he could score some blow before he left. He’s playing with fire if he consumes alcohol.

i agree with you
for somebody like Hamilton, alcohol is a gateway to bigger and worse things. He drinks, he starts to feel good, he starts to think about how great coke is, starts to think a little bit of coke won’t do him any harm, etc.
An addict can’t let “his real self out of the cage”, because he can’t put it back in the cage.

yes
Plus, he’s an alcoholic as well as a coke addict. He says he used to drink a fifth of Crown Royal every day.

god i'm a pussy
i can’t drink a fifth of anything in a day.

I did it once, I don't recommend it

I did it a couple of times in college
Not pretty. Blacked out each time. One time I woke up and everyone was telling me I was trying to start a fight…….with myself…….bad night.
First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...
The first rule of drinking an entire fifth
is that you don’t talk about drinking an entire fifth.
"It seems like we're not hitting because we're not getting hits." - Dusty being Dusty
The 2nd rule is don't do it again
First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...
but you broke that rule... ;-)

I know
Which made it even dumber than the first time……I woke up with my jaw hurting, and I asked the people who were there who punched me……..yep, I was punching myself…..
First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...
I shouldn't laugh
You could’ve died of alcohol poisoning or something.
But that is pretty funny.

i agree and disagree...
i agree in that this is being blown out of proportion and he’s getting slammed by everyone with a voice, but it’s not like he did heroine and made a porno… however he has to set an example of accountability for the youngsters who idolize him. i don’t think it’s a big deal that he got drunk after being a substance abuser—i know ex-drug-abusers who drink from time to time and don’t go past that point, but i do think it’s a big deal that he preaches God and being a changed man when really, he’s still lured by the appeal of getting fucked up and being unfaithful to his wife.
if you play the God card as avidly as he has, you have to back it up forever. it’s ok to play the religious angle in that it’s generally accepted as a legitimate reason to do or not to do things. but you have to back it up or else everyone is going to think you’re a huge phony.
BUT this is totally conditional for me. if all he was doing was drinking, then i don’t care about this whole thing. but if what Bubbafan said is true (about wanting to score blow) then i completely retract my assessment and agree with him entirely. the ex-druggies i know who drink are disgusted and appalled by the thought of drugs, no matter how drunk they are. their recovery was successful. if josh wants to do blow, then he hasn’t fully recovered and he’s got some bigger problems than these pictures.
He slipped.
It happens. I agree that those who talk Christianity have to walk Christianity. Being a Christian, though, doesn’t mean being perfect. Christians sin. David, whom the Bible describes as being a “man after God’s own heart,” was guilty of adultery and murder.
Messing up is one thing. Continually messing up destroys one’s witness. Me, I’m certainly in no position to throw the first stone, nor do I see anyone here flinging a rock, either. Compared to other boards, Everyone here has handled this with a great measure of intelligence.
A person can be changed and yet still tempted. I’m pulling for Josh, as I suspect everyone here is.

Have I ever mentioned
how much I miss your commenting when you’re off doing real-world things?
I’m not being sarcastic, you bring a point of view I don’t hear too often in interesting, non-accusatory ways. That’s kind of awesome.

agreed
in many ways, Turtle is the most important commenter on the site. He brings a level of maturity that the rest of us can’t seem to get to.

Especially for Josh ... that's a pretty nice bar. Better than most in the tri-state.
Eighty-five percent of the f*ckin' world is working. The other fifteen percent come out here. A f*ckin' playground for the cocks*ckers.

The weird thing
is that his babysitter, Johnny Narron, said he’d be shocked if the photos are real. This was before Hamilton admitted they were, obviously.
If it’s true Hamilton told his support system the morning after it happened, shouldn’t Narron have known? He says he was with Josh in Arizona, keeping tabs on him as usual. Was he just lying to protect Josh?

Sorry,
Don’t give a damn. Whenever that kind of sanctimony is exposed, I just shrug my shoulders.
Wear something sexy to my funeral.
I wonder why the person hasn't been elected to public office yet
