Someone told the baby the score

"Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you!"
Someone tell him Kip Wells is coming in
And to shut the fuck up with his optimism.

sMarty to Clownboy
Let’s say he gets through this here. Do you bring Lehr out to start the eighth?
3 guesses what the answer was…
"Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you!"
common, it's Brantley...
his answer was “mmmmmm!!!! Gonna’ get me some ribs”

Roenicke is coming in
bottom of the 7th in Toronto.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
nope
He just gave up the go-ahead run. Matsui pinch-hit for Hairston.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Roenicke
just blew three fastballs down the middle past Jeter. 95-96 mph. Jete swung and missed at all three.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Yeah, pretty much
Right down Broadway, and he missed. Three times.
Jeter seems to have trouble seeing the ball indoors. Or maybe something about Roenicke’s throwing motion threw him off.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
This is hysterical ... of COURSE it's a Pats jersey

you know, if Taveras could take a walk, I would so love being contrarian to the Willy haters
but, he can’t, so all I’ll say is “it’s nice that he knows he sucks, but plays hard.”
50 year willy could get on base better than willy
but maybe willy could pinch run for him every time he got on
what the heck was that by the Cubs?
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
He was surprised that Willy actually stole 2nd...
He figured it was a mistake and that Willy was actually trying to steal 2nd… again

So, uh
Taveras stole a couple of bases and scored when it didn’t matter. Adam Dunn/d, huh Marty?
Wear something sexy to my funeral.
Impossible, 'cause Pete woulda done that
Whereas Pete would have never hit George Foster or Adam Dunn’s worthless home runs. That’s why they’re not cool
foster didn't hit worthless hr's
bench did
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
Well, I'm quoting sMarty
not me.
sMarty said he asked Sparky about Foster’s 52 dinger campaign in ’77 and Sparky said more than half of them were useless
if only we knew some one with mad research skills
to compare 77 Foster to 72 Bench and see who hit more ‘useless’ homeruns
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
yes you could do it on there
to me no such thing.. especially back then. But I remember we used to joke that if the Reds had a big lead Bench would jack one. Trailing not so much from him. I’d be interested to see what the numbers really say
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
Red Sox fans said the same things about Williams, Rice, and Yaz
It’s a common perception by fans. Think about it. Against a guy who is has given up runs or a middle reliever, a hitter is more likely to get a bad pitcher from a bad pitcher. Whereas, if you’re trailing, it’s often because the guy on the mound has quality stuff and is beating you.
I remember Marty complaining about Eric the Red hitting home runs when it didn’t matter. Anecdotal baby, anecdotal
Here you go
In 1972, 27 of Bench’s 40 HR were when the game was within one run or tied. Four HR came when the Reds trailed by more than 4 runs. Only 4 came when the Reds led by more than 4 runs.
His homers seemed pretty damned important, I would say.
In 1977, 19 of Foster’s 52 HR came when the score was tied or within 1 run. Seven came with the Reds trailing by more than 4 runs. Eight came with them leading by more than 4 runs.

I have no idea, since power scares pitchers at all times, backs outfielders up, and changes the opposing manager's strategy
useless home runs? Never heard of ’em

Is Justin Lehr pitching a shutout?
Needless to say, this didn't work and everybody died.
Maddux when he was throwing 87!
And won games by hitting his spots. Come on, that’s not that far of a reach. Maddux is a legend but he wasn’t great at the end of his career.
I was teasing you, jsl. I still don't know how Maddux EVER did it
Which is why he’s the hero of every pitcher you ever talk to
I feel like I have to defend myself lately.
A lot of people have been disagreeing with me and I’ve been very strongly opinionated or something.
I like Lehr a lot more tonight than I did 5 nights ago.

I like him enough I looked him on baseball prospectus
The last step to liking him is getting off my ass and going to get the 2009 book to read the excerpt of a scouting report
The box score of the Phillies game really is great anecdotal evidence for
why power is so good. They haven’t strung hits together, and they don’t have anyone with a monster night, just power hitting.
Do you think Dusty will leave Lehr in for the 9th?
Needless to say, this didn't work and everybody died.
but this time it make sense to leave him out so dustbag will pull him

Jeez, you should go read the comments at Hal's place
32 year gets win of a lifetime and rather than get excited for him and realize how weird baseball is, all people want to is complain about Dusty and the Reds.
there will be PLENTY of losses over the next two seasons to complain about the Reds. Can’t we just be happy about Mr. Lehr? We can be cynical in four days when his turn comes around again.
This isn't Hal's place.
But I agree with your point.
